Ricou is the new jockey for Sean Mulryan.French jockeys are often under critics like was Thierry Doumen when they ride in England.Recently,Ricou has won for Francois Doumen in your country. In particular,an easy win with Grand Bleu who will may run at Cheltenham.
In England, you seem to prefer vigorous jockeys for the finish.Mc Coy,a real champion, doesn’t seem to sleep in the last furlong !!!! but I hope we,French, are not so bad.
Bon Baisers from France
February 22, 2007 at 18:56 #39946I think Ricou is a good jockey hopefully we see him riding some top horses for sean mulryan, Thierry Doumen was a quality jockey aswell especially when riding Baracouda and First Gold. I wouldn’t say we prefer vigorous jockeys in England it’s just that Mccoy seems to have most success riding horses in that way, plenty of other jockeys are less vigorous such as Timmy Murphy and Ruby Walsh and they are both succsesful
February 22, 2007 at 19:49 #39948So the concensus is that French jockeys are good on steering jobs then? That sounds about right.

Sorry ,there aren’t any cows races in France.
I think it would be funny to see Mc Coy being unleashed on a cow.
February 22, 2007 at 21:20 #39950touche Rory.
personally I think Doumen has been proved to be a particularly good partner to the tricky baracouda over the years and there are/were worst jockeys about.
Ricou however i shall never forgive for one of the worst rides ever on Jair du cochet in the sun alliance chase 03. obviously speaking through my pocket.
February 22, 2007 at 21:41 #39951I presume Ricou is only Mulryan’s jockey in France or is he going to be riding Forget The Past & In Compliance as well?
February 22, 2007 at 22:38 #39953
Don’t rate Ricou at all – I also remember him calling a cab at every other fence when he rode Douze Douze in the Peterborough against Best Mate.
And I thought he was a bit premature in pulling Jair Du Cochet up in Edredon Bleu’s King George.
Anyone know what happened to Douze Douze?
February 22, 2007 at 22:55 #39955Not sure Paul but how they got away with blatant non-trying in the King George beats me.
February 22, 2007 at 23:02 #39957
I don’t think there was anything sinister but just thought that it was all too premature, especially when he was up against doubtful stayers in a poor renewal – Edredon Bleu, Tiutchev, Seebald, It Takes Time, Le Roi Miguel, Fondmort etc…..
February 22, 2007 at 23:18 #39958Yes, Irish, non-triers in Grade 1 events are endemic in the game. He was never in the race after virtually unseating at I thin kthe second.
Or did they pull him in the King George to get a price on him for the Pillar?
February 22, 2007 at 23:27 #39960He was on the bridle turning for home and soon pulled-up was my point, he should have at least been able to maintain a challenge up the straight.
February 23, 2007 at 22:05 #39962Anyone know what happened to Douze Douze?
He had a number of spells off the track with leg problems, and is presumably now retired. A shame, as he could have achieved a great deal – I remember him annihilating Sleeping Night once in one of the most extraordinary performances I have seen on a racecourse. Unfortunately his jumping left a bit to be desired and he simply could not act right-handed, hence a series of disappointing performances here.
