Gutted to see this old warrior collapse after pulling up before the last at Kelso. Commiserations to his connections.
March 25, 2017 at 15:00 #1294121Gutted, loved that horse he was such a beautiful thing so sad to see him going down, you just knew what was coming with the way he was going. I so wish he got the chance to have a long retirement but it happens I guess
March 25, 2017 at 15:01 #1294122Sadly confirmed now
March 25, 2017 at 16:33 #1294134R I P Old fella !!

No, he never had a decent chance of the retirement he might have deserved. Look at the owners and how they handled Diamond Harry: it took them almost four years, a few falls and numerous cross country chases until they realized that their Hennessy star should have been retired.
Reve De Sivola might have had another 2-3 years or racing ahead of him with those connections.
Rest In Peace Reve De Sivola…. From A Grade 1 winner at Auteuil to a fatal heart attack at Kelso. That’s too bad to be true!!!!!!!
March 25, 2017 at 17:13 #1294143Time to drop the banhammer on RubyLight I’d suggest, yet another disgraceful post in this section.
Reve De Sivola had obviously declined in ability this year but that in itself is no reason to retire, especially since he continued to go with such enthusiasm. It’s rare to see a horse who can race for so many consecutive years at a high level without being soured. Reve was one of the exceptions – one who clearly enjoyed the routines of racing life and was evidently a born alpha of the herd.
This is a tragic way for it to end for such a heroic scrapper but personally I’d have preferred to see him tumbling down the weights and having fun in lower grades than retired. As with punting, you’ve got to avoid being results-oriented in these sad situations. Just as many losers are not bad bets, the connections of Reve De Sivola have done nothing wrong and deserve no blame for Reve De Sivola’s sad demise. It’s just bitterly unlucky and very sad.

Who the **** are you to have me banned???
A horse beaten 27 – 29 – 38 – 53 – 43 lengths in all starts this season surely tells you that he’s had enough. There are good owners and there are also other owners who simply can’t call it a day.
A Grade 1 winner at Ascot and Auteuil with that poor form and now almost three stones worse than his career high of 167 really deserved better. And don’t ever dare to ask for a ban you stupid dictator!!!!
March 25, 2017 at 17:40 #1294149Reve de Sivola was one of my favourite horses and I’m devastated that he’s died. But I want to remember how lovely he was, how brave and beautiful. So really we can do without this shameful unpleasantness on his post. Please.
March 25, 2017 at 19:37 #1294163James Reveley pulled him up swiftly before the last presuming having realised something was amiss. The horse then staggered and keeled over, presumably suffering a heart attack or seizure. R.I.P
March 25, 2017 at 19:40 #1294164One thing I will remember is that he looked an absolute picture of health in the parade ring pre-race. In a competitive race he ran an absolute cracker and was still in with a chance of a place when suffering a seizure or something similar.
March 25, 2017 at 22:20 #1294174The same thing could have happened him as a 4 year old on debut so its total nonsense to blame connections. 12 years old is not old in horse terms. It is reasonably old in racehorse terms but there are a large number of 11-15 year olds still racing regularly. Yes he was having a poor season but was running in some fairly hot races, and it’s only 13 months ago since he last won
March 25, 2017 at 23:17 #1294178Shocked to hear that the brave and beautiful Reve De Sivola has gone..RIP :(he will always be remembered) and sorry that he never got to enjoy that happy retirement that was his due.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 26, 2017 at 00:32 #1294180Have just got home after a day out; can’t remember the last time I didn’t watch the racing on a Saturday so this is such a shock. In a totally selfish way I’m so relieved that we weren’t at Kelso today as we always stand by the last fence. RIP
March 26, 2017 at 12:22 #1294203So so sad to hear this news … Reve De Sivola … you were a brave warrior … you left this world after galloping and jumping with enthusiasm in the Spring sunshine … you will be fondly remembered … RIP
March 26, 2017 at 13:13 #1294211I only read the other day [correct me if I’m wrong] that Nick Williams buys his horses as yearlings and brings them on himself. They must have a wonderful life with him, and he must know them inside out. Stable must be devastated today.
