Hi, Pretty new to this forum but just after a bit of advice. I have been betting mainly with bet365 for probably 15 years with very few issues. Yesterday I went to place my Saturday bets and my stake is restricted to literally pennies. Got a email today to say my accound is restricted and all offers have been withdrawn. **** it I said Paddy Power now instead as I have had an account with them for ages which I rarely use. Tried to put my bets on but restricted here as well.
Question is do bookmakers share information on punters or is this just coincidence. I will open an account elsewhere but if its going to be restricted it might not be worth th effort?
Thanks in advance for any replies :good:

I write from my personal experience and what others tell me they have experienced.

Outside betting exchanges, they all restrict you in the end.

I was told Bet365 are better than most and, so long as you don’t blatantly take the proverbial (only bet on niche markets when they make mistakes), you can make net profit of about £8,000 before restriction.

And that’s almost to the Penny how much they let me get in front with them.

William Hill and Ladbrokes let me win similar, Coral less, Paddy Power only £600, one firm restricted me to SP after my very first bet (took 14/1 win only, beaten a neck at 4/1) and BetFred closed me altogether before I even backed a winner with them after I took 5/2 a horse which started Evens and got beat.

It’s not necessarily how much you win off them or if you’re winning at all.

    It’s your PATTERN OF ACTIVITY.

If you’re backing horses that are then shortening in price then, win or lose, they know it’s only a matter of time before you’re damaging their profit numbers.

And they’re simply not having that.

They may well now be starting to information share.

Punters moan about it incessantly, but it’s perfectly legal and no matter how big their profits bookmakers don’t want anyone winning off them.

If you know what you are doing, Fixed odds bookmakers are a honeymoon period of your life before you’re forced onto the exchanges.

You can prolong an account by wasting the odd pound here and there on the casino, the odd pound betting in play on late night football, and the occasional multiple bet.

These all trigger the “mug punter lad having a bit of fun while boozing at home” flags and get them off your back for a bit.

I didn’t realise it was that bad. Starting to regret having a good Aintree now  Ive not bet on the exchanges for years as I’m mainly an each way on outsiders punter. Might have to revisit them though if the William Hill account I have just opened is the same. Thanks for the reply :good:

The standard thing I hear is “that Denise Coates, who owns Bet365, she’s worth £7.7 BILLION, she paid herself £358 million as ceo only last year, she shouldn’t be allowed to restrict winning punters.”

But it’s perfectly legal and she didn’t make her money by letting shrewd punters get on.

Her business model is to employ low-paid staff, who will make mistakes with the odds sometimes, but play the punter, not the bet, and get rid of any punter who can take advantage of any mistakes.

    It’s the same everywhere.

Extended places each-way is a big thing at present – but that’s for punters who if they win a few quid that way will lose it and more doing other things.

Anyone who cherrypicks the value offers gets identified and slung out.

It’s the way of the world.

A lot of people think the hardest part of winning betting is finding winning bets.

If you manage that you’ll come to reflect that that was actually the easy bit.

Because getting on consequently just became a lot harder!

    Good luck!

Many years ago Stan James (now Unibet) closed my account and in a matter of a few months Victor Chandler did the same. So suspect bookmakers do share information.

Ian is correct, MBV. I was on a Grand National preview panel in 2011 alongside the Stan James Rep, so asked him why my account was closed when I considered my profit to be negligible. He told me Stan James was no different than any other bookmaker. Whether a punter is in profit does not matter. If your average winner beats SP by 20% they’ll know you either are or will be a successful punter in future – so will close the account.

I had this on my PC many years ago,

It doesn’t affect me anymore as I have purely used “exchanges” for over a decade; I was restricted by all the majors for “arbing”.

New Bet365 accounts these days lay you to lose £500 on the earlies markets and usually last about 4 bets until being restricted. If you’re beating the SP’s, win or lose, you’ll be finished with them.

Thanks for that, Tim – sounds like they’ve tightened up further, then.

I find 888 are relatively easy to trick compared to other bookmakers, like Ian was eluding to – much easier to get decent sized bets on (that being between £100 – £197) – they don’t let me bet more than £197 on anything lol as long as you bet on one or two random American evens favourites per month late at night.

But yes they will all restrict you in the end as long as you have reasonable intelligence and aren’t an addict betting on football accumulators every weekend.

Used to milk some nice little Freebies at 888sport, on top of betting over the odds as they were often last to shorten up.

    Nothing lasts forever, though.

SkyBet have introduced mandatory £500 ‘spend limits’ for all accounts for those aged 18-24. Because we are adults, but clearly not to be trusted, they’ve put a blanket ban on monthly spending beyond that amount. I don’t know the precise mechanics (and I probably won’t, since I seldom exceed £15 in any given month). Disappointingly paternalistic, but what should I expect within a political climate that demonizes gambling to an increasingly Victorian extent.

Then again, I’m astonished anybody has been able to get £500 on SkyBet without being knocked back or having their account terminated in quicker fashion than a Watford manager’s contract.

SkyBet will happily let me bet on any horse to win £5, £10 if it’s a big race.

But it’s no badge of honour – you’ve only got to be more clued up than their odds compilers to get restricted.

I’d imagine half of TRF are restricted and the other half are on the same path.

Yeah I’ve noticed with ante-post betting 888 and WilliamHill are the two firms that are most likely to be last to shorten a horse so worth having accounts with them if possible. Have to do my williamhill bets in shop now on lots of different slips lol right pain in the ass.

I can’t possibly go in a betting shop, Ben, going into a town or city centre is bad enough, full of….people!

Betting online, while acting like the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld, in the course of invigilating TRF Lounge contests, is more my thing.

I actually work for a smallish bookmaker which is part of a huge company and liaise closely with the Sports Risk department whose job it is to profile accounts and limit them if necessary.

Yeah, I know, boo hiss right!

Let me just say that this conspiracy theory of bookmakers sharing information is absolutely false…UNLESS they are part of the same organisation ie Betfair, Paddy Power and Skybet would share information as they are all under the Flutter umbrella.

The problem is just the sheer amount of bad business that we get. People opening accounts in their wife/girlfriend/mother/dogs name just to take us to the cleaners on immature prices/arbs/palps/bonus abuse etc, then we have the syndicates recruiting people to open accounts and place bets for them…it really is incredible! I could tell some unbelievable stories and maybe I will when I eventually move on!

We are talking hundreds of accounts every single week, even as one of the smaller firms out there.

Unfortunately some of you genuine punters just get caught in the crossfire.

Not doubting anyone on here but a lot of stories you hear online are absolute works of fiction as well.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, it’s just the way it is I am afraid.

I get that but I have been betting on this account for 15 plus years. Most years as a loser. To just close me out without giving a reason other than our trading team have reviewed your account and you are restricted is unfair but that’s how ***** roll I guess

To be honest I’m going to go back to doing placepots. Cash in the bookies gets me out the house and a cup of tea in the bookies. :bye:
