Has there been any mention of the possibility of saving today’s card at Cheltenham?
December 13, 2008 at 19:10 #196720Yeah run it at a track that doesnt have a mountan range for home straight.
December 13, 2008 at 19:16 #196723It will not be saved or rescheduled.
The BHA say there are plenty of alternative races for todays intended runners over the next couple of weeks.
Which is probably a fair judgement in this instance.
December 13, 2008 at 19:16 #196724The reports I’ve heard on Radio 5 have said that there’s no chance whatsoever of the races being re-scheduled.
December 13, 2008 at 19:20 #196727Thats weird, the nicked the best races from the Ebor meet and moved them too other courses.
its raining here ( the dog and I both got soaked strolling by the wharfe), I suspect that the going on most courses is heavy if raceable at all.

Interesting comment, that. It begs the question that if Nicky Henderson wants to get a run into Binocular soon, how is he going to dodge Punjabi in the Christmas Hurdle?
December 13, 2008 at 19:25 #196729Nicky Henderson is leading a campaign to get the hurdle race at least re-sceduled for next week, maybe at Ascot according to Racing post site.
December 13, 2008 at 19:30 #196731Lol, it would appear that Nicky doesn’t have an answer then! Newbury on Wednesday also being mooted according to latest reports.
December 13, 2008 at 20:16 #196737If Henderson wants to avoid running his horses against each other what about Ireland?
Of course he will want it to be re-run. If it is then it will take runners away from the Christmas Hurdle. Making it easier for Punjabi and so easier to win the WBX Million. The Bula will also not be such a good race, being easier to win than it would today.
I’d like to see it at my local track (Newbury) but don’t thingk it would be good for racing.

Value Is EverythingDecember 13, 2008 at 20:32 #196740If I owned either Binocular or Punjabi I might quietly remind Nicky Henderson that they are not his horses but the owners’.
December 13, 2008 at 20:41 #196741More specifically, if I owned Binocular I would probably now expect the horse to run at Kempton. The fact that a (probably inferior) stablemate is an intended runner there already is really neither here nor there. I (hypothetically) pay the bills, not Henderson.
December 13, 2008 at 20:56 #196743Contrast the inability to save the main races with the way last weeks Punchestown card was moved on a couple of days in its entirety. A typical response in Ireland and yes, I know the programme is more amenable to it over there.
But surely the two main races could be moved to Newbury or Ascot if people actually pulled together.
December 13, 2008 at 23:05 #196762Newbury would have been good for the game but with the Christmas Hurdle coming up maybe it would have been just a little too soon.
Pity they could not have moved it to a new course on Sunday such as Newbury or Sandown but what can you do.
December 14, 2008 at 00:21 #196774Totally agree Grey Dolphin.
In 2001, they ran the Bula at Newbury on the Weds when Valiramix won.

Move the races to Kempton’s Boxing day card, If it gets dark re-align the floodlights to the turf course and switch them on. 2 weeks will be long enough to re-allign them?.
December 14, 2008 at 22:06 #196920It seems the BHA may take another look tomorrow (Monday) after several trainers have made representations.
If it happens then Ascot looks like being the likely option.
December 16, 2008 at 20:31 #197374The Boylesport.com Hurdle has been re-scheduled for Ascot on Saturday.
It will be run at 1:40.
The BGC Long Walk Hurdle will now be run 30 minutes later than originally planned at 2.10pm. with The Ladbroke at 2.45pm.
Ironically the race will be shown on BBC1
