Several small fields for the chases tomorrow and four races were re-opened after the initial declaration deadline of 10:00.

In these cases, Weatherbys attempt to contact the trainers of all the horses that have been withdrawn at the declaration stage and offer them a second chance to decide to run after all.

As a result, two horses have been added to the overnight decs – Aztec Warrior (H Knight) in the 2:10 at Wincanton and Tanikos (N Henderson) in the 3:45 at Sandown. I believe this info should be available to all punters, but it isn’t and can only be spotted by someone monitoring the Weatherbys website between 10:00 and 10:30.

The question is, what motivates a trainer to change a decision taken not to declare? There has to have been a reason why the horse was entered but not declared at the first opportunity and presumably in these examples, it was either the prospect of fast ground or the fact that the horse isn’t 100%.

In both these cases, the horses only have to jump round to pick up some prize money for finishing last, but it’s difficult to imagine that’s a motivation for the stables concerned.

What price either, or both, end up as non runners tomorrow ?

Maybe they decided on different races but when given the second chance thought these were good opportunities after all if the ground is right which they will probably check tomorrow.
Is there any reason the Racing Post can’t print such information?
If I had a chaser I wouldn’t want to be running it on ground too fast.

Speaking of information that should be freely available, those horses that have had wind operations during the summer should be declared and the info made available to all punters (if it already is, then could someone tell me where I can get the info).
It would be a key bit of information to have when analysing a race. Nicholls seems particularly adapt at getting wind op horses to win first time out. Generally at juicy prices. And it is only after the race that we learn of the op. This isnt good enough.
Surely all horses that have had this or any op recently, should be declared and the info made available on the BHB or some such website.
Maybe even a (wo) after the horse in question in the racing post!

To be fair to Nicholls he is very open about which horses have had breathing ops in the stable tour in the racing Post.
I notice that the aftermath of Shannon’s Pride’s win at Hexham today represented the first we’ve read or heard of his wind operation during the summer.

Seems to me that nearly all the horses at Ditcheat have had breathing ops:o

I’ve thought that too, but they can’t have one every summer, surely?:o
