There has been some off page communication with regard to RATINGS and how they can help and guide systemites.
Recent postings suggest a "new kid on the block" HRB but I am not looking to pay or buy information beyond my morning papers and what is free via the internet.
So if you can suggest any tried and tested ratings please point me in the right direction.
Also recent postings have brought the Mirror’s SF & F to the fore and I also ask are the a rating or a tip?

for your reply.
I do not know Formbet but am trying to avoid paying, no I am not mean it is simply my low stakes do not warrant the extra expence.
Sad but true.

Hi Billion,
Whichevewr ratings you use, they are by definition subjective, so you’d might as well design your own. After all, isn’t the whole essence of betting the willingness to choose your own judgment over that of others?
Kind Regards,
Brian

Forgot to mention, in case anyone is interested, mine are based on: –
1. The distance of the race, in yards
2. The going
3. The time taken to run the race
4. The weight carried
5. The class of the race
6. The distance the horse I’m rating finished behind the winnerI’m quite happy to give the details to anyone who might want them.

and although your thoughts (and style) are personal to you it is not what I am looking for.
There will be many reasons for creating your own ratings and there may well be just as many for not doing so and the reason for my enquiry is for the furtherment of an exsisting system which tried and tested over many years and has it’s roots back in the ’60,s.
Like all things time marches on and during the past 50 years situations and circumstances change and so it may be bettered with a change of rating,
We are all aware of Formcast (Mail) Computerman (Express) Star ratings etc. etc. What I would like to know is has anyone used any of these to their benefit, which ones are they and within the modern day where can the freebies be found on the internet, such as Massey.
I hope this gives you more of an idea of what I am seeking.

October 6, 2010 at 10:48 #321132Accuracey needed for ratings mean no individual has time to work out every race. I would think it can only be done if specialising.I know Steve Mellish works out juvenile hurdlers.
If any ratings system is any good you are likely to need to pay.
I buy Timeform products, their ratings are the most respected amongst the horse racing industry. Breeders, trainers, owners and punters. Including most, if not all proffesional gamblers.
Any rating should not be considered as a "tip". Unless somehow that rating takes in to account all aspects of the race. Going, distance, draw, jockey, trainer, if the trainer is in good form, temperament, how the likely pace will effect each runner, jumping ability, breeding etc. Certainly with Timeform ratings, all those things will effect the chance of every runner. It’s very possible the horse with the best chance of winning, will not be the "top rated".
Even then the most important thing in betting is value, not the horse with the best chance of winning. A punter should consider backing the horse with the worst chance of winning if it’s value. Bet the price, not the horse.

have you tried Patternform HERE
It’s free, has speed and form ratings available and is also interactive if you wish to add filters.
It’s worth reading the how the whole site works to get a full understanding of it.
October 6, 2010 at 13:11 #321157Hi Billion
Though the HorseRaceBase site is voluntary subscription you do not have to make one to get the ratings for the days ratings.
http://www.horseracebase.com/index.ph and choose today’s racing.
The following are all the free ratings I have been able to find.
http://www.racingpost.com/
Racing Post Ratings (RPR) and their Topspeed ratingshttp://www.racingoracle.net/
Racing Oracle speed and form ratings. The Racing Post’s and Racing Oracle ratings are what I would call the more traditional ratings based on time and/or collateral form, in the type of race being run today and seem to represent what the horse achieved recently and could achieve if running up to that recent best.
As well as the above mentioned HRB ratings there is
http://www.adrianmassey.com/index.php
Adrian Massey’s ratingsAdrian’s and the HRB ratings take a completely different and somewhat mysterious view in that I am not sure exactly what variables are considered, but they seem to consider the horses performance on all types of racing not just the one the horse is running in today. The rating seems to represent how the horse should perform today.

, thank-you for taking an interest and your comments.
I used
Patternform
some years back (well it feels like that) when a poster named Mayoman (not here) gave me an AW system where you selected an input your own criteria requiremnt. It was fun and you were able to play around with it but will look again and check out if they give their own ratings.
TimeForm
is available as a 5* 4* 3* rating with the OddsChecker site as I recall. Has anyone experience and thoughts regarding this simple rating.
Time – time – time is our enemy so simple and time saving is what need.

,
I do think we had crossed postings
Thanks for your reply and certainly
Oracle
is new to me, I have had a very quick look and again like the input section.
With all this wet weather it could be good to enter the "going", have you used this facility yourself?
I certainly have a few things to think about and guess it will take up a lot of my time and keep me from getting under Mrs B’s feet.

Racing Oracle input section – you had me going there as I haven’t a clue.
I think i found it. I assume you clicked the Take The Tour Button and was presented with a sample of speed ratings with the input/option panel at the bottom.
Unfortunately that is the one part you have pay for. I just click ‘Todays Racing’ then ‘Race cards’ to get today’s speed and form ratings presented much the same as the RP’s ratings.
October 6, 2010 at 14:10 #321171Hi Billion
If you want a taste of Timeform ratings then Betfair are giving away a free Timeform Race Card for tomorrows(Thurs 6th) Newbury meeting.
http://www.timeform.com/images/freecards/freecard.pdf
They gave away Timeform race cards for the whole of the Glorious Goodwood meeting and apart from the first day when it was on fire, the rest of the week did not go that well.

Well I did find it
Dolus
and then I didn’t
I have registered and like the look of what I have seen so far.
The one race I was interested in offered a selection plus danger (I guess this is the same with all races) and this is all I require, sadly the selection is a non runner but it was quick and easy to move the danger to selection and find the next best FORM rating.
Nice site, I like it and now will have to find out how good the ratings are.

October 6, 2010 at 19:31 #321206Hi Billion
I do not know how they perform long term. Probably have their ups a downs like any other service.
At the moment I am only looking at Non Handicap races.
Racing Oracle only covers UK Flat meetings from which there were 5 non handicap races today. The speed ratings provided one winner at 2/1 while the form ratings provided 3 at 13/8, 2/1, & 5/1 so the form ratings win (for today).
October 7, 2010 at 17:23 #321333Hi
Dolus
,
Having just returned to
The Badlands
I confess I have not had a chance to look but will do so in the morning.
Interesting you are looking at Non Handicaps because I shall be looking at handicaps and will judge them only on the selection and danger.

October 7, 2010 at 17:34 #321335Dolus,
Just had the quickest of looks at The Oracle site and only two (Flat) meetings covered
Is the National Hunt omitted?
