HI LADS
HOPE THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE FOR THIS THREAD
I HAVE BEEN LOKING AT THE SPEED AND RPR / FORM FIGURES FOR RAVENS PASS IN PATICULAR IN THE 2.40 AT NEWMARKET.RAVENS PASS S/F READ IN HIS LAST 3 RACES 8O 91 110 BUT IN POSTDATA TOPSPEED SECTION S/F READS LATEST 123 BEST 123. ARE THESE SEPERATELY COMPILED RATINGS OR IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS, MAYBE A WEIGHT CALCULATION.
AGAIN RAVENS PASS RPR / FORM FIGURES READ 81 101 114 THEN UNDER HANDICAP( EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT A HANDICAP )RATINGS SECTION THEY READ LATEST 127 BEST 127 ADJUSTED 130 . IS THERE A SIMPLE MATHAMATICAL EQUATION I AM MISSING.
BE VERY HAPPY IF SOMBODY COULD HELP.
THANK YOU

Welcome to TRF, by the way.

October 20, 2007 at 12:49 #120625The basic figure needs to be adjusted up to 10-00 (or weight-for-age equivalent where that is a factor) in order to normalise for weight.
In other words, as Raven’s Pass’ Topspeed figure is 110 and the horse carries 13 lb less than 10-00, its adjusted Topspeed rating is 110+13=123 (which is still too low, BTW).
It is easier to see the purpose of this when dealing with a handicap like the Cesarewitch, in which horses are carrying different weights and are of different ages.
October 20, 2007 at 12:50 #120626The day of the race ratings are always adjusted to 10st, so with the Dewhurst runners carrying 9st 1lb, they add 13lbs to the historical rating.
However, with a best RPR of 114, this should put Raven’s Pass on 127 rather than 130.
I presume that the RPR compilers have added on a few extra pounds because they think they’ve under-rated him – his 114 rating included a ‘+’ to denote that he’s probably worth a higher rating.
