10% of Americans want racing banned
17% Don’t Know.
The figure is always going to be higher in the US than in other countries because of the higher % of folks who think gambling is immoral but I find it frightening that 80 Million Americans either want the sport banned or aren’t sure.

You have to take these agenda polls with a pinch of salt. Actually, only 100 out of the 1000 polled said yes to the ban question which is not at all the same as 10% actively wanting horse-racing banned before they were asked that question. If you believe that the questions put were unbiased and were posed to an informed public then you can argue that 220 million Americans do not want a ban. But, you then have to take account of the sub Homer Simpson intelligence of mostly uninformed people asked and who voluntarily watch Fox programs. Then find out what the typically loaded and emotive question was:
" In light of the recent tragedy in the Kentucky Derby where another horse was euthanized from injuries sustained in the race, should horse racing be banned?"
With a question like that, a "yes" figure as low as 10% is the real surprise.
They were not questioned on the morals of gambling, only on the issue of a horse that had to be destroyed after racing.May 20, 2008 at 02:48 #16446610% of Americans want racing banned
100% of those Americans don’t know which end to feed a horse.
100% of those Americans will not watch another race until the 2009 Kentucky Derby.
100% of those Americans would have not cared if NBC weren’t so careless and disgraceful in showing those images of Eight Belles’ end.

Quite rich from a country which still has the death penalty.
As far as racing goes apart from the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup, horse racing is still a minority sport in USA as all the major sports involve 10-15 min quarters which each take about an hour to complete.
