Hi
Can I pick your brains folks.
Why has Rapscallion been given 4lbs rise and then further 15lb without any more runs ?
He is due to run tomorrow at leicester 3.30 in a H’cap hurdle having risen 4 lbs (93 to 97). This is not a penalty for the win.
He last ran 9 days ago on 27th November in a handicap hurdle winning that race.
If the handicap has been reset then I can understand the 4 lb rise. However I note that in future handicaps he is due a 15lb hike.
How come he rises 4lb for latest run and then due a 15lb rise. That does not make any sense to me.
Help please i’m getting frustrated trying to understand this.December 5, 2007 at 16:50 #128955

Hi Alexander
I’m not certain about the absolute chronology for this, but I believe your example illustrates it precisely.
Any horse running well enough to be raised, from Tuesday onwards of each week, will not be affected by the rise until the week on Saturday following,
Therefore, Rapscallion’s 2nd place on Tuesday, 20th November would not have affected his h’cap mark until Saturday 1st December, so he was able to win on Tuesday 27th November off his original 93.
His new mark of 112 for that win does not kick in until this Saturday, so he is able to run here off the 97 he was raised to for his 2nd on 20th November.
I know what I mean, anyway.
December 5, 2007 at 16:54 #128957The 4lb rise tomorrow is for his second on 20/11
The win on 27/11 took place before that reassessment came into force
He’s not got a penalty tomorrow for the win as that was gained in a Conditionals’ race
The 15lb rise due is for the win on 27/11
No surprise then he’s 10 clear top with Timeform!
That’s my interpretation anyway, hope it makes sense
Edit: Crossed posts RH, between us I think we’re bang on

I do indeed understand now that the official ratings calendar, so as to speak, has been explained.
Very much appreciated
AlexDecember 6, 2007 at 12:14 #129113Alexander,
I wouldn’t consider having a bet on it today at that price (1/2), especially when it looks outclassed to the tune of 8lbs and the trainers’ course stats are in the red, albeit 3 runners.
Maybe one for the lay punters, today?
