He has a very odd habit of closing his eyes when he talks…
Shocking habit, surely he should be lined up against the wall and shot?
Maybe it’s something to do with him wearing contact lenses.Think he’s better when he’s not paired up with Francome, who’s a very lazy and poor pundit who gets by on his wit and personality.
Think the time McGraths really shone is the odd time he’s been the guest pundit on RUK.February 3, 2008 at 09:58 #139872He has a very odd habit of closing his eyes when he talks…
Someone once told me that was a sign of intelligence !!!!!!

Someone once told me that was a sign of smoking too much marijuana although I’m pretty certain that isn’t the case with old Jim boy.

Lay anything he talks about with closed eyes!
February 3, 2008 at 10:40 #139875Are we classing Thommo as a pundit lol? Hey nobody can be as bad as Chris Kamara is at football…. he tips the same bet up every week but I digress
I am trying to think of any tips Thommo has done that he has given some logic behind it but am giving myself a headache so will stop. Why bring Tommo into the situation, the topic is about Jim McGrath. Didn’t warrant a negative reply about Tommo. People just love to attack him and i really don’t know why. I agree with Zoso, i think Tommo is really good as a presenter / commentator as have always said.
Regarding the topic, i agree. I don’t know why Jim McGrath gets so much attention. I’ve not heard him give anything decent in the past except favourites etc. Didn’t he set up some tipping service once where he only gave a tip if he knew was going to be a certainty. Was hugely expensive and would get maybe 1 or 2 tips a month? Heard majority of tips were like 1-4 faves etc… Not too insightful. Though i guess if they won it’s worth it.
February 3, 2008 at 11:07 #139877Thommo was brought into it as it was a topic about racing’s most over-rated pundits, not about Jim McGrath. McGrath may not be everybody’s cup of tea but having to work with Thompson on a regular basis would surely sap the strength of anyone?
February 3, 2008 at 11:32 #139884Jim McGrath’s popularity on here has been pretty low ever since he took part in a “celebrity Q & A session” several years ago, in which he didn’t endear himself to anyone who took the time to ask a question with a string of condescending and monosyllabic replies.

My bad but I believe the topic was "Racings Most Overrated Pundit" – in my opinion thats Thommo. Forgive me for having an opinion thats different from your own that I thought might be related to the thread.
February 3, 2008 at 12:15 #139889He may win Scoop 6’s, he may be loaded, he may have a successful book, but Dave Nevison is one of the most over-rated pundits imo

Think the time McGraths really shone is the odd time he’s been the guest pundit on RUK.So wearing contact lenses makes you close your eyes but only when you are speaking? Poppycock! He is a very poor presenter and pundit..mind you there is no-one any better on C4 or BBC1. Thankfully i have RUK.

Agreed, he was well worth listening to.
Long thought he just goes through the motions on C4, and no doubt laughs all the way to the bank.
No surprise he gets up the nose of some as he does have a touch of the arrogant not-suffer-fools-gladly self-confident halo of a winner
Must say I find it strange that we have concurrent threads on here criticising both he and Nick Luck: two of the better broadcasters in a sea of dross.
The discomfort the inferior feel in the prescence of superiors?

Seconded.

February 4, 2008 at 10:27 #140043I used to hang on to Sir Peter O’Sullevan’s every word when he spoke about anything connected with racing.
As for least favourites; well, that is a bit negative, isn’t it ? Everyone has their own personality and way of conveying their insights and opinions … though, that said, Thommo does get on my wick more often than not.

February 4, 2008 at 10:29 #140045I just dont get how everyone loves to hate Thommo.
If I could go for a beer with any pundit I would love to drink with Thommo. I reckon he would tell some great stories and be a real laugh.
The majority of the others I would probably go to a different pub just in case they tried to talk to me.

You would, by all accounts, be the one who was buying…
February 4, 2008 at 11:01 #140060Has any of you (apart from Irish Posters) seen Ruby Walsh’s Father Ted do the Commentry on Irish Tv?? well if not i think you would find him very funny and never afraid to say what he thinks and RTE’s racing would not be the same without him…….

It would be an honour to buy the great man a drink. I would mark his card as well and ask for nothing in return.
