Well, now I’ve even got Warwick Racecourse tweeting this information about those paragons of virtue Racing UK.
Can anybody, anywhere, show me exactly how much profit RUK generates and where this goes back in to racing? They keep using it as an advertising strap, but nowhere can I find whether it amounts to anything more.
September 1, 2016 at 16:36 #1261800The December 2015 accounts have not been filed at Companies House yet.
The Dec 2014 accounts show a profit after taxation of £100K on a turnover of £45M. No dividend was paid in the year. The only shareholder in Racing UK Ltd (No. 04809913) is Racecourse Media Group Ltd. The 5/6 Directors of the company were paid £1.2M with the Highest paid director earning £452K. Accounts for Racing UK Ltd and Racecourse Media Group Ltdcan be found here if links work

So for 2014 RUK had £100k to redistribute back to racing. That’s 0.22% of turnover, and 8% of the Director’s remuneration. In effect the equivalent of sponsoring half a dozen moderately decent handicaps. None of which makes me think that their advert should be taken with anything other than a huge pinch of salt.September 1, 2016 at 20:05 #1261815I don’t know if RUK do sponsor races but the Tote used to count race sponsorship in their claim that everything went to racing.
September 1, 2016 at 20:35 #1261816Sponsorship is not profit. It is a form of paid-for advertising.
Their alternative ad strap could be ‘Racing UK – we only put a value of 1/12th of our Director’s salaries back into racing’
September 1, 2016 at 22:29 #1261824I’ve seen an ad’ saying RUK is “owned by the racecourses”. So if all profits go to racecourses, would that count as going “back into racing”?

Yes each of the racecourses has shares in Racecourse Media Group Ltd which in turn owns 100% of Racing UK Ltd. If you click on the link of my last post for RMGL and view the Annual Return this will show the Shareholders of the Company and how many shares each course owns. It also gives a fairly lengthy description of the rights of the shares.
