Sounds really interesting Masterk. The results are good as well.

Suppose the 20% drop sums up racing.

At the end of the day if you can validate your selections using your system then at least you can be happy with your choice

After spending 3 years on and off working on a piece of software I’m still non the wiser if prediction software can be profitable. My software is a combination of form study and predictive. The form study part has always been very useful, I still can’t believe that the Racing Post don’t provide the ability to filter a horses form based on going, distance, left/right handed, jockey etc. Another thing I have automated is for any race to find all previous meetings of the horses, I can then filter out meetings that were under vastly different going conditions, distances or were just too long ago to be relevant. I’ve found these form study aids very useful over the years. I can also compare 2 horses to find any other 3rd horse they’ve both raced against (very useful when trying to assess juvenile/novice races).

On the prediction side of things over 11000 races my software shows a LSP of -400. The summer before last it excelled on the flat making a 500% profit in 4 months, I thought I was onto a good thing then last summer using exactly the same system there was a 20% loss to the starting bank.

Where did you get the racing data from?

Where did you get the racing data from?

    Initially I used these guys:
    http://www.racingsense.com/download.htm

But for the last year or so I’ve written a program to take the results down from the Racing Post website, there’s a bit of manual processing to it too.

Sounds like an interesting program if it can scrape data – how easy was that to develop Masterk?

I currently use ukracestats but I’d like to be able run a program that strips the info from their download excel spreadsheet.

    Would save me hours :)

What do you want to do with data?

This page might be of help http://www.contextures.com/xlcomments03.html#CopyToWord

    Hi Kev,

The spreadsheet has values in %’s and in win/placed/runs format.

Id like to make each cell a % and then highlight those where the value is greater than 10% and finally strip this information into another sheet.

Not even sure this is possible.

This programming lark looks pretty complicated BTW

I’ll drop you a PM with my email to save cluttering up this thread.

I love Ukracestats info. What a valuable service he does punters in the UK.

It’s not too bad, most of the data is fairly consistent, I parse the html as text, however some races can have some odd formatting and require a bit of messing around. The worst thing is that they keep changing the format of the pages every month or so, meaning I have to keep changing my code to get it to work.

hi, interesting topic. I too used Profile Electronic Form Book with very consistent and worthwhile results and profits, particularly in 3mile+ chases. I can’t remember the year but it closed the Jumps around May and the flat in October. The Cambridgeshire at Nemarket was the last saturday, they top-rated the winner Sir Don @100/1 and the second @25/1. I had an e-mail the following monday saying all services were terminated.
Since then i’ve tried several some expensive, some cumbersome, some hopeless. the best i’ve come across is racing sense by simplesoftware. by aligning its ratings to draw data for the flat and a bit of form reading for the chases i’m making small but steady profits.
i’ve never heard of ukstats – but i’ll have a look, thanks

    Hi terry,

Just not had time to get online as much.

Are you still using racing sense and did you get a chance to look at racestats?

I have owned two pieces of really good software which were getting great results for me & both were ruined by the Authors updating them.
I bought Pro Punter Gold by DGA Software for the Amiga-It was £150 I’m sure & had an impressive ROI in handicaps with over £10000 win prizemoney.
First time I used it was at the 1994 Derby meeting where I doubled up Erhaab & Balachine(derby & Oaks) & both won at 7/2 & 6/1.
It was tedious typing in almost all the stats, names, jockeys ect.
It had a great track record in better class races Nh & Flat, so much so that every bet I put on at my local bookie was given to the manager to peruse before deciding to ok it.I was told I was getting banned if I had any more good lifts from a girl I knew who worked in the shop.
Upgraded to a PC & got that version at a big discount £20 I think-& the results were not as good.
Apparently the workings were changed to incorporate better results in lesser races.Stopped using it as it was plain to see The package had been wasted.
I then heard great things about Profile NH (Aesculus press) and was fronted by Richard Hudson -Editor of Odds On magazine, who did books & finally a software version which was updated by disk or email.Again this was about £150 & £35 per month to update.
This identified traits in a horses form & although you were not to take the top rated blindly-I had 11 winners in a row from it.
After a hugely successful season I was informed the software was being upgraded & paid about £100 to do so.
Almost immediately I noticed the results were shockingly different & phoned Richard Hudson to tell him how disatisfied I was with the "improvements".He actually told me they full thing was going backwards & he regretted doing it.
I asked if I could return to the "original" version-but too much money & changes had occured to let this happen.I stopped the service.
I told Mr Hudson about Pro Punter as well & he said it was well named "Pro Punter Gold" & if I had the original Amiga version to keep it as it was the best on the market-not to bother with later incarnations.
Both these software programs are now off the market-Profile going fairly soon after the changes.
Now these were both operating well in the nineties-Why is there no similiarly good programs in the millenium-not to my knowledge.
Brimardon was taken to court a few times for false claims & I was advised never to buy it.
    Please discuss
    Thanks

    Hi..

Could you tell me if you still have "Pro Punter Gold" by DGA. If you are willing to sell or trade, could you let me know.

    Thanks

Im sure I still have a copy of the disk somewhere, unfortunately only for an Amiga. There are still Amigas for sale for £20 or thereabouts.
My Amiga just stopped working. If you get an Amiga PM me & I will send you on a copy.
Would be curious to see if it still ran down the winners.
