Hi All
I am keen to read about the rogues of racing (both human and equine)
I wonder if anyone has any interesting links that they are willing to share
Thanks in anticipationJuly 6, 2010 at 19:33 #305089July 6, 2010 at 19:37 #305090I was going to say Coffee Time and Little John, then I realised what you meant hahaha
These two equines were the horsey equivalent of the canine species.
Going back in the annals, Ile De Chypre and Ubedizzy would also be in a definitive who’s who of lovable equine rogues.July 6, 2010 at 19:37 #305091Slightly reminiscent of Barney Curley although a trainer at a much higher level, and for priesthood read Special Forces (pretty much the same thing in certain areas
)July 6, 2010 at 19:39 #305092A few quick suggestions
1: The Druids Lodge Confederacy

2: The Running Reain Derby

3: Hermit’s Derby (more a sad story than a rogue…but interesting in terms of the money involved)

4: You might be able to find a copy of a book called "Neck or Nothing". It’s about the life and times of Robert Sevier, owner of Sceptre.

July 6, 2010 at 20:31 #305101A good read on racing skullduggery and the like is David Ashforth’s "Ringers & Rascals" – some of the stuff in there make Barney look like a saint, at least his horses are who he says they are!!
July 6, 2010 at 22:43 #305121Plenty of Humans I could mention, but thinking of some old equine rogues brought back some fond memories.

Add "I’m on large" Glen Gill to that list
July 7, 2010 at 07:45 #305158As rogues go, Ken Payne strikes me as being in the top ten. You might get a copy of "The Coup" for a tenner or so.

July 7, 2010 at 21:56 #305331Anyone remember Marinsky? He was a hugely talented 3-yr-old with Vincent O’Brien in the 70s, with a predilection for savaging other horses. I think he tried to bite Gentilhombre in the July Cup and then had to be raced in a muzzle.
