Ok Merlin.

    > which ONE do you like?

Tanya Stephenson. I should start a fan club I think. Not that I’m an obsessive stalker or anything! :cheesy:

    > which one can you tolerate.

    I can tolerate Tommo.

    > which one for knowledge.

John Francome. He’s excellent. Funny and charismatic, backed up with supreme knowledge.

    > which one for good commentary.

Has to be Simon Holt, but to be fair Aussie Jim is a safe pair of hands. Just get rid of Hanmer and O’Hehir on the Grand National!
PR, You think they are bad – check out the truly dreadful Miriam Francome on the Racing Channel.
[/quote]

Those two words sum her up perfectly, indeed truly dreadful.

Luke Harvey is good value on the Racing Channel, although a lot of talk recently has been about going out and getting p****d, thought he was in training for the Marathon.

Robert Cooper quality, but he is one of those you love or hate.

Alex Hammond, god Inane drivel is all she speaks. "Will come on for the run" "Will win again" "Good jockey" "Rides well" Pick any of the above sentences per race for her. Looks ok tho.

Richard Pitman, for someone who surely must know so much he again talks cr*p, same for Willie Carson but worse.

Jim McGrath and John Francome both class on C4, Mike Cattermole and Simon Holt not far behind, the rest are in it for their own publicity.

Oh, nearly forgot Saturday morning regluar on Racing News, Claude Duval ,the punter’s freind, do me a favour then and tip some winners, not just those trainers horses who you have had lunch/dinner with that week.

Ive met Thommo a few times and he is OK

Anyone who works for the BBC is there on the basis of which school they went to or who their parents are. All in all Claire Balding is absolutely dire.

At least with Thommo what you see is what you get – no hidden secrets. By the sounds of you lot Ramsden and Fallon are the straightest guys on earth!!!!:o :o :o

Yeah, I’ll stick up for Thommo as well.

OK, so he’s a twat, and that interview with AP at Cheltenham after his winner was squirmish beyond belief, but he’s plainly completely harmless. As long as you don’t phone his tipping line anyway.

And his commentaries are OK – let’s not forget how incredibly hard that must be.

He and John McCririck (sp?) are the butt of all the jokes on Channel 4, but frankly the supposed race-reading team of John ‘I’m only here for the smutty innuendoes’ Francome, Walter ‘I mincingly like the favourite me’ Swinburne, and ‘smug patronising hedge my bets’ McGrath tell us nothing original or compelling about the horses chances.

Mind you, thank God they’re not Willie ‘giggle about calling the horse the wrong name again’ Carson, and Peter ‘I’d name the winner in time for you to get on large if it wasn’t for this damned stammer’ Scudamore.

Of course if any of them browse this site – you all do a great job, and tell your producers to show us the horses finishing down the field instead of going close-up on the winner – most of us are straining to see if we’re still in the placepot.

    Racing Channel

Alex Hammond – sex appeal 10/10……..racing knowledge 0/10

Miriam Francome – enough to send you to sleep with her monotone rambling style

    Channel 4

Derek Thompson – childrens TV is about the level of his presenting ‘talents’…..hate it if I’m in bookies and he’s commenting on SIS, every single race where there is a clear leader coming to the final fence he says "he’s only got to jump the last to win" – you just know he hopes it falls and he can bellow "HE’S DOWN, HE’S DOWN!

    BBC

    Pitman/Scudamore/Carson, enough said

Thomo for me, with all the dribble he comes away with he should be in the World Cup.

I`m quite surprised Dave Smith or Mark Winstanley have not been mentioned so far , both useless.
For a racing channel afternoon ,I`d choose Mike Cattermole , Jim Culloty (tipped me a lovely 14/1 winner a while back), and a man with a lot of charisma , Gary Wiltshire.
Absolutely ideal.
Alex Hammond would make the teas of course.

I don’t think Thommo’s that bad. He is a very good broadcaster at least. He may not be as knowledgeable as Jim McGrath or stir up any controversy like McCririck or Francome but he is comfortable in front of the camera and basically ‘presents’ well. Some of the others are awful at presenting but are quite good at summarising races/horses. Thommo’s there because he’s smooth not because he’s brain of Britain.

I find Lesley Graham a bit annoying but not as bad as Scu. Its cringeful watching him, waiting for him to stumble and stutter and get mixed up. Its the same with Tanya on Ch4 – she comes across as being totally nervous when she does her piece to camera, its disconcerting for the viewers.

Scu and Pitman are very knowledgeable and if you listened to their analysis of a race you wouldn’t go far wrong.
Tanya Stephenson is useless, herself and Lesley Graham are token women.Tanya might take over from Big Mac but not for very long. Her tips are natural bismarcks,I’m sure she doesn’t get a charity bet any more.
Lest anyone think I’m a misogynist I think Claire Balding is agood and Tracy Piggot was very good onR.T.E.

Jimmy Lindley has to be worst.

Oh how I’m looking forward to Glorious Goodwood again when every bloke to put on a set of silks will be the recipient of his "and there’s no better jockey riding today".

Balding & Carson together are abominable. I hope Clare owns up to her gaff on BBC Digital when she was adamant the footage of Val Royal was him winning the Breeders Cup despite there only being 8 runners in the race!!! Apalling.

Actually Lindley is awful. Classics from Lindley include one day at Goodwood "lester’s horse is doing the pasto doble" And something he will never mispronounce again.
The Cork and OYEYYEZ! doubt even he will mispronounce the new title of the race.

Is Statto-people’s favourite presenter, basically inoffensive or just a nobody!

Oh dear, looks like I’m the only supporter of Tanya Stephenson!

Give her a chance. She’s a new presenter, but an obvious lover of the game and will improve. She might look a bit nervous but at least she smiles, and when she gets into her stride, she’s fluent.

Not that I’m trying to get a date with her or anything…
