I’m going to be in Orlando when the festival is on visitng my parents.
Just wondered if anyone knew of any sites showing the races?
Failing that I’ll watch through some of the bookies when I place a bet.
Thanks
February 24, 2009 at 19:36 #212098You’ll have a problem there OFO.
I was working in Boston last year when it was on (first two days anyhow)and couldn’t get to watch it via the normal methods, e.g. online viewing and / or betting sites.
Betting sites recognise that you’re in a country not allowed to gamble.
Online broadcast sites such as C4 racing and ATR (RUK) don’t allow video be streamed to a non-UK I.P address either.
Fortunately I was prepared and I paid £100 for a Slingbox (google it) and hooked that up to my Sky HD box before I went.
This lets you connect to (and control inc record, playback etc.) from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
BTW – this also got around the problem of having a bet online in the U.S, i.e via the use of the Skybet red button

February 24, 2009 at 19:47 #212103I was in orlando for Ascot in June and I could bet and watch via ATR no issues.
Cheltenham is not on ARTR though
February 24, 2009 at 19:59 #212107Is Florida not a ‘gambling state’ i.e. it has racetracks?
If so, you might be able to get access to BetFair (not entirely sure) and watch the races on the website?

Lee,
Can this slingbox be used with a mac? I know RUK normally can’t be viewed on a macbook
February 24, 2009 at 20:35 #212118Yeah it can Salselon, Slingplayer which is the software you get with the box now supports Mac operating system – has done since 2006/2007 I think, according to their site anyhow.
Grass, maybe you’re correct re Florida being a gaming state and therefore betting sites allowing you to bet and view but I’d still take the Slingbox option TBH as, providing nobody else at home wants access to the sky box you’ll want to view, you can watch the whole racing package(s) as opposed to just the races you bet on.
You can even watch the morning line if you want

OFO:
There will not be a problem. CHeltenham Festival is on TVG Television.
Coverage is not great as its presented by yanks and a token irishman in a studio in California but the races are live.

February 24, 2009 at 20:56 #212122Thats good news Craig,
will check with my dad to see if he can get this via his cable
March 5, 2009 at 20:04 #213610Sadly I cant get TVG on my dads brighthouse cable channels – gutted
Tried placing a bet at Bet365, no issue but unable to watch the race – still gutted.
Unable to access Betfair at all – gutted
I can get the audio but it seems as its on Racing UK I cant get access.
Hopefully it will be streaming somewhere else?!?
March 5, 2009 at 20:54 #213619Anyone who wants to watch RUK online outside the UK PM me and I’ll tell you how its done, I watch the winter jumps from the Gulf most days. It will cost you $15 per month (for the service not for me).
Will only reply to TRF regulars, dont want RUK shutting it off on me, not yet anyway.
March 5, 2009 at 21:01 #213622Anyone with a webcam can broadcast from their own home onto justin.tv. You can watch attheraces right now on justin.tv
March 6, 2009 at 10:35 #213773As far as I know the festival is not on TVG, and hasn’t been for the past few years, ever since the spate of equine fatalities a few years ago.
Dunno if it was complaints by viewers because of the fatalities, or low handle (jumps racing is about as popular in the States as point to point racing is in the UK – even the top U.S. jumps races get zero national TV coverage).
March 9, 2009 at 06:45 #214532try justintv.com
