    “Profiteering”, or the “going rate”?
Racecourses will only sell food and drink at the price racegoers are willing to pay.

If racegoers didn’t buy then the racecourses would need to reduce prices..

Found it quite easy to resist a second pint at that price!

Good to be back on the Aintree Thursday again.

Called almost every race wrong. Thought Pied Piper was a certainty, did not fancy Clan and could not see Epatante staying 2m 4f. At least I managed to find Late Night Pass, although I thought Maxwell was going to spoil it!

Left before the bumper. Still a good value ticket with the top class racing on offer. Just a pity about the extortionate prices inside.

Jamesons is €14 for a litre bottle on a Ryanair flight from Ireland to the UK at the moment.

Liptons lemon tea matches the colour. Good for keeping out the cold.

Well Ian I took your advice and decided to forego the overpriced offerings at Aintree today.

I discovered online last night that there is a Chinese takeaway near my hotel so as I dragged my cold, wet self back through two bus journeys and a fair bit of walking at least I had my Chinese to look forward to.

And then I arrived there to find the shutters down. The shopkeeper next door said that there had been an incident last night and the takeaway had been damaged.

So it was another bog standard hotel meal for me tonight 😥

I thought it was a cracking day today CAS despite the weather.

From my vantage point high above the winning post I was sure that Knight Salute had got up but the longer the wait went on the more the dead heat seemed likely.

Talked myself out of Epatante and Porlock Bay needed another two furlongs added to the run in.

Much better forecast for tomorrow so I’m planning on getting there early and doing the course walk.

The positive I’m taking from this is that you didn’t spend much money!

If so, you owe it to yourself to treat yourself tomorrow – though off course again, obviously!

The Grand National course walk is a must.

£13 for a microwaved chicken tikka masala :negative:

I may give in to temptation tomorrow afternoon. The £8 duck wrap has my name on it I think.

No actual Indian takeaway within reach?

The duck wrap does sound good, tbf.

Yes, it was great racing. A pity the weather was poor in the middle of the card but it could have been worse. Of course, it cleared up later!

Just glad I backed Pied Piper online this morning rather than waiting and backing him on the track. At least I got my money back.

    Enjoy the course walk.

I hadn’t realised there had been an online goodwill gesture – just checked my account and instead of a 6/5 loser I effectively have a 1/10 winner!

I’ll take that – thanks CAS for steering me in the direction of good news!

What’s wrong with good old British fish and chips?
Surely there’s a decent chippy in Liverpoool!

Has anyone elses local fish and chip shop become overpriced? Was going to get one the other week but it would have come to £15 just for the fish and chips, would have been over £20 with mushy peas/ketchup/curry sauce or whatever else it was I’d selected. I wouldn’t mind paying that for a fresh fish and chips on the coast, but not around London. If I’m spending £20 on a takeaway I can’t help but feel guilty unless it’s a Chinese or Curry, withstanding it being something like a freshly caught fish & chips.

Our local chippy is fast pricing itself out of existence. £18 for cod and chips twice.

I’m from Fife Ginger, where they have some of the best chip shops in the land. In fact people travel from far and wide and happily queue for 45 minutes for a fish supper at the famous Anstruther Fish Bar.

Me, I’d rather have a good Ruby.

No Indians within walking distance Ian and I don’t think I’d have the nerve to have one delivered to my hotel.

“What’s wrong with good old British fish and chips?”

    Plenty!

I consider battered fish one of the most bland, boring, dishes on Earth.

On the rare occasions I go to a fish and chip shop, I seek out something else – many do garlic mushrooms, chip shop curry sauce or gravy (chips can be variable and some need a sauce) and a chicken quarter nowadays.

Like patriot, I much prefer a “Ruby” from a curry house where there would be at least ten things on the menu to interest me.

All down to personal taste – I certainly wouldn’t have a hotel or pub chain curry if there was a specialist curry house nearby, often cheaper and always better.
