    Thanks for the info GC,

    Count me in.

Hang on a minute, my beloved Boro play Sunday afternoon so I will be bladdered by 8:30pm

Jeez, I will have to ask my partner to help me, her name is Google, but after 8 pints, she is very slow indeed.

Maybe you should ban me from the quiz now

    Oh…

I can though, reel off every Derby winner from 1895 – 2007 ( without notes I might add :P  ) but that’s of no use whatsoever in this particular contest, I should imagine. :?

Oh well, guess I shall just have to wait on Bruce Forsyth or Matthew Kelly reviving You Bet. :(

Sounds good GC. I’ll pop in if I’m around an internet-worthy computer at the time. Although it’ll probably be mostly for the banter, as I’m sure my knowledge will be nothing compared to all you hardened veterans!

yes grayson it did, i had a large bet at 200/1 (it was somthing ridiculous like 4 stone out of the handicap) my thinking was that this horse was virtually unbeatable at alnwick racecourse (my second biggest win was on him at 7/2 when i was 14!!! 6 weeks pocket money) the track at alnwick has a long left handed climb to the finish and i could imagine him running on through the fading field to pinch a place………sadly not but it is still one of my favourite horses, chipmunk
NB it was the only time in my betting experience i have seen fear in a bookies face…..lol

I’ll be there! I might buy a bottle of wine too, and pretend i’m actually socialising.
Might make my answers more accurate too!

    Heh heh, excellent story, Chipmunk!

I seem to remember Tartevie was a mile out of the weights, yes, but you’ve got to be in it to win it and he was too much of a patent safety to have disgraced himself on the day.

What do you make of Alnwick as a course, btw? I’ve never been there (or any other ptp course further north than Easingwold, shamefully), but I know plenty of ptp folk who speak very highly of it.

One hour to the start of te quiz, people. Preparations are well under way – the sparkly suit and insincere grin are both being dusted off as we speak.
