It’s been a difficult week.  I have definitely felt the pressure, because I am operating at £100 a point.
My system/method is not up and running yet, so I am having to rely heavily on my speed ratings. They are performing well. My target of 10 points profit a week seems very possible. I have missed some nice winners because I have rushed my selections. The luxury of having some time and space to truely consider a race thoroughly cannot be overstated.  Things were just too hurried last week.  I should have backed the following…….
Pop Music  @ 5/1  &  Convivial Spirit  @  6/1<br>(which were both Top Rated)
Eventually my system/method will enable me to have more on my strongly fancied Favourites and the courage to be more speculative with the longer shots.
I doubt that my program will be kicking butt this week, however I will try and keep this nude streak going.

it would be nice if I could get my act together. I need to write some more, logical, code to protect me from my privitive instincts.

.. what are you writing your code in carlisle? I recently changed over from excel to access, and I’m fumbling my way through VB at the minute.
I’m not sure that access, was the right way to go yet .. I am still exporting files to excel for analysis and unless I can get my own VB application up and running I might go back over to excel completely.

^^^^^^ If you are dealing mainly in odds-on place shots, will the system be able to cope if a couple fail to fire for some reason and finish unplaced, or does the system rely on a consistent return due to the high risk/ low reward nature it takes?
When do you opt for the place bet over the win bet? Are there any situations when you would refuse the place bet, eg 20 runner maidens?

I use BASIC to program with.  Essentially all I need is to<br>deal with if statements and do some file handling.
I have a friend who helps to provide all the data that I require. At the moment I am just trying to teach the program<br>to sing, dance and tell jokes.
I have also writen a small VB program that goes to the Racing Post website and scalps some extra data.
Eventually, in a few years, I would like to convert all my programs into VB code.  It would be a alot more user friendly, but it’s not vitally important.

because I am still stumbling around in the dark, my place bets are a total embarrassment.
Wahoo Sam was awful.  I think I might, in future, say no more 1pt place bets.  It might make me think twice about it. I must stop the primitive part of my mind from telling me………………<br>"Try and pinch some money in this race"
My system/method doesn’t have rules, it just gives me guidelines. The final decision is up to me, but I feel I can then make an informed judgement.
When I have easy access to my guideline printouts, I will try to write alot more about the races that interest me.
