The one I have backed for the Arc is Sarafina. 4yo filly who was third last year after nearly being brought down when the usual scrimmaging for positions took place shortly before turning into the home straight.

It looks as though she will undergo the usual French style build up for the race with a mid season target, then a rest before turning up at the Longchamp trials 3 weeks before the main event.

It is quite unusual for the Aga Khan to keep a 4yo mare in training

Not really. There have been plenty, both G1 winners (Darjina, Mandesha, Shalanaya, Daryakana – latter 3 all kept with the idea of going for the Arc) as well as stakes performers (Shemima, Katiyra, Winkle, Shemiyla, Ashalanda). Even this season, there are a couple of other 4yo fillies in training (Zarebiya with Oxx, Shamanova with ARD).

It does seem that Sarafina has one of the best chances of landing the Arc out of all those older fillies, including Mandesha. On the other hand, this year is shaping up to have a very strong Arc field: last year’s 1234 (Workforce, Nakayama Festa, Sarafina, Behkabad) along with Snow Fairy, So You Think, Rewilding, St. Nicholas Abbey and whatever Derby/Oaks/GP de Paris winners emerge in the next few weeks. Just so many strong contenders even without the 3yos.

Pour Moi appeals as the best of the three current favourites but 5/1 isn’t that tempting now when he may only be slightly shorter if he wins a trial. Workforce has to be considered as a previous winner but he was pretty umimpressive on seasonal debut and even if he improves stepping up in trip he could easily be vulnerable to Pour Moi’s change of pace. I doubt So You Think will stay and for me he is a very doubtful runner.

When Coolmore put the money up for a horse, they are aiming it at the top races in terms of prestige and prize money, as such, I can not see past him going Prince of Wales – King George – Arc. Maybe take on the Irish Champion Stakes before the Arc. I seriously think he will remain unbeaten all season.

When you looka t the betting for the King George: So You Think 2/1, Workforce 5/2, St Nicholas Abbey 3/1, is there a case to be made for St Nicholas Abbey being value for this @ 12/1 considering the others are 7/2 and 4/1?

Pour Moi was hugely impressive and if the ground is on the quick side would be my choice on the day but would his turn of foot, running from so far back which looks his style be so affective if the ground wasn’t on the quick side?

What you guys think of GALIKOVA is 25/1 and though Golden Lilac will be hard to beat.I think she do it.

I am really not sure SYT will even make it to the Arc.

Coolmore already have 2 strong Arc contenders in SNA and Pour Moi. Fabre is a genius with the Arc, so I am sure Pour Moi will be greenlighted for the Arc. Since FAG has been chosen to go the stamina route (Gold Cup), you have to assume that SNA will stick to the mile-and-a-half route, and so also go for the Arc. And so it may be decided to keep SYT to 10f even in the autumn for the Irish Champion & Champion Stakes.

Not only does Coolmore have multiple options, so does the Aga Khan: Sarafina, Bekhabad and now Baraan (what a finish…if they can get him out of the stalls, 12f will be a cinch).

Reliable Man won the Jockey Club on this 3rd start (!!!!) and his pedigree is only going to improve him with time and distance. He has ARD feeling bullish enough to go for the King George.

And then the French fillies, with their weight allowances, are looking delicious, led by Galikova and Golden Lilac.

I certainly don’t think it is wise to start backing SYT from now.

Think Baraan is a huge price, could be competing favourite next month when he should win the Grand Prix de Paris, showed two sides at Chantilly staying in the stalls, then showing guts to finish like that.

This is the horse also that easily beat Pour Moi two months ago, value.

Behkabad I see looks like being retired after suffering a bad injury.

It was reported some weeks ago that Victoire Pisa would prep for the Arc in the Irish Champion Stakes. Now they are heading back to the trials?

I know this has been asked before, but we’re going to Longchamp for the Arc; staying in Paris for a few days close to the track. Any information about dress code, cost of tickets and what to see in the vicinity of the track would be most welcome. [Just heard Mike Catt get his French racecourses mixed up and realised I’d done the same!]
