If Chezza was a politician he’d be Michael Foot , standing trying to gather a vote with his cardigan buttoned up wrongly …..

Many congratulations to Alan – a thoroughly-deserved, and overdue, victory.

There’s a time and a place (the Lounge) for messing about, Purwell, and there’s also a time and a place (and that can include the Lounge too) for acknowledging a deserving winner.

I’ve been aware of Alan for a great many years, way before I first joined this forum – must be something like 20 years ago – I’ve always found him interesting to listen to, and his logic always resonated with me.

I was delighted – and a bit surprised tbh – to discover “APRacing” was indeed him and I’ve continued to enjoy his contributions here since.

I’ve never met Alan – I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire, he lives in Wiltshire in the Swindon area, I believe – but we share a love of Salisbury racecourse, I think it fair to say.

I know when it’s time to stop joking around for a minute and pay tribute to an outstanding winner, that’s all.

    Well said, ID.

I usually learn something when AP posts. I have read a few articles by him and seen him interviewed and his insight into racing and betting is second to none.

In a discussion last week we agreed that ultimately you have to back your own judgement in this game. But I do think you need to be able to tell the difference between good advice and bad advice as well. AP’s is certainly the former.

Very well said Ian and CAS. :good:

I have had the pleasure of meeting Alan several times at the races and can say he’s exactly the same interesting and helpful person as he is on TRF. Always come away thinking I’ve learnt something and owe a lot to him.

I think everyone knew it was a joke, Purwell.
Just Ian decided to explain his position and me and CAS agreed with him. :good:

GT absolutely nails it – I can hardly complain if someone cracks a joke when I mess about so much on here myself, but I was actually being serious for a moment, and trying to give Alan the respect he so richly deserves, thus I was merely explaining my position, which I was then pleased to see CAS and GT agreed with.

Did not look like that to me, and still doesn’t.
