(1:35) 302B Poplar Square S’chase (Grade 3)
€18,553.50 ( 2m – 5yo+ )1 Forpadydeplasterer(156)(TCooper) – PCarberry … 11,12
2 Trafford Lad (GB)(146)(LJButler) – TJDoyle … 11,12
3 Joncol(153)(PNolan) – APCawley … 11,10
4 Made In Taipan(146)(TMullins) – DNRussell … 11,10
5 Holly Tree(137)(ESheehy) – DJCasey(C)(T)… 11,08
6 Selection Box(127)(CAMcBratney) – PWFlood … 11,08
7 Lochan Lacha(122)(AJMartin) – RCColgan … 11,01
8 Top Of The Rock(130)(JHarrington) – RMPower … 11,01
9 Tranquil Sea(140)(EJO’Grady) – AndrewJMcNamara … 11,01Looks a great race on paper. Forpadydeplasterer will take all the beating but he’ll surely come on for the run tomorrow. This run should leave him spot on for the Tingle Creek.
Trafford Lad beat him at Fairyhouse last year but he’ll probably need the run as well. I’ve heard he’s being aimed at the Hennessey with a view to seeing if he stays 3m+. I have my doubts whether he’ll get that trip and I’ve already backed him for the Ryanair.
Joncol is an out and out stayer in my view. Trip will be far too sharp for him tomorrow.
Made In Taipan and Tranquil Sea would be the two that interest me. Made In Taipan goes well fresh, likes Naas and comes from an in form yard. I think he might just be a bit sharper than Forpadydeplasterer tomorrow. Tranquil Sea has been a big disappointment over fences so far. The conditions of this race should suit him though and if he’s back to his novice hurdle form after a summer out in the field he could go close.
October 30, 2009 at 14:37 #256220Joncol wants 2m4f in soft-ground imo, IC – the Durkan will be his target, and a staying on effort over 2m will put him in the sweet-spot.
Whilst he probably gets 3m, I figure he is more effective over the imtermediate trip
October 30, 2009 at 14:44 #256222I saw him win a point down in Cork for Jamie Codd in what can only be described as a bog a few years ago Grssy. I think he’ll have no problem over three miles.
October 30, 2009 at 15:32 #256234I was really referring to his ability to get home over 3m in company with the likes of Aran Concerto, Cooldine, Notre Pere etc, IC. I just think that his best trip will be 2m4f of thereabouts.
October 30, 2009 at 15:42 #256236Fair point Grassy, he’ll struggle against that lot alright. Aran Concerto and Cooldine could end up in a few of those 2m4 chases as well though. I’d like to see Cooldine brought back in the John Durkan but I’ve a feeling they’ll wait for the Lexus.
October 30, 2009 at 17:57 #256264Is Tranquil Sea not a decent punt for this receiving weight?
October 30, 2009 at 18:00 #256265He’s the one I was drawn to, rory – but I’m not sure the horse is one to have much faith in, to be honest.

I think he just had problems at the wrong time last year, and while he might feasibly be a little soft, it’s a good set-up for him tomorrow.

Market should be very informative. If O’Grady has him back to his best he could be very well treated.
October 31, 2009 at 13:42 #256409Market was very informative! Good to see Tranquil Sea return to some sort of form. Hopefully he’ll stay going the right way this season.
Both Trafford Lad and Joncol ran great races over an inadaquate trip for both of them. Always going to be tough for them giving all that weight to Tranquil Sea.
November 1, 2009 at 11:27 #256544Joncol ran an absolute blinder. My immediate thought after the race was that he could be a Gold Cup horse.
