    Anyone know a website for the fixture list? And where are the tracks in Scotland and are there any on the West?

    Regards Jonny

    http://www.pointtopoint.co.uk/fixtures-2008.html – 2007/8 fixture list

    http://www.pointtopoint.co.uk/pdfs/course_map.pdf – course map

    The three courses in Scotland (Musselburgh is not used any more – must get that map updated!!) – Balcormo Mains, Mosshouses & Friars Haugh, are all in the East.

    Many Thanks Happy Jack.

    There should definately be a course in the west though, in my opinion!

    Balcormo is always a fun one…get all our lot there living it up… 8)

    http://www.northernp2p.co.uk is probably your best site. I don’t think there is any particularly Scottish P2Psite…

    Haven’t we forgotten Netherby, venue for the Dumfriesshire and Stewartry meeting on Sunday, February 24th next year?

    I stand corrected.

    I shall, of course, be asking for my P45 first thing on Monday, following that shocking blunder.

    The two former Rules courses of Lanark and Bogside have both been used for point-to-points within the last 15 years or so, but neither are operative at present.

    The write-up for Bogside in Mackenzie and Selby isn’t desperately complementary of the place;

    “Course is the old NH course rapidly falling into decay; flat, good galloping track with big but inviting fences… going can be rough when firm… some parts of crumbling old stands can be used… Its unprepossessing name may not be literally true, but figuratively is just right”.

    When Lanark was declared unsafe a few years ago a new venue was found a couple of miles along the road at a farm on the banks of the Clyde. Not had a chance to attend any meetings there but will do this coming season.

    Friars Haugh at Kelso is an excellent venue also and well worth the trip from the west. Three meetings each season.

    Ah yes, that’s the fifth Scottish venue, Overton, farmland owned by not-very-prolific permit-holder Willie "Meadowleck / Son of Snurge" Young.

    The meeting scheduled for there in 2008 is the Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Eglinton on Saturday, February 16th.

    Was about to say, I remember beig taken to a PtP near Lockerbie when I was younger, and that would be by far the easiest to get to from Ayrshire.

    Why did they stop using Musselburgh? Used to go pointing there a bit back in the day.

    Yep. That wasn’t Netherby, though, as that course has only been in use since 2005. It will have a long way to go to curry the same sort of favour as the defunct Lockerbie one you will have attended, but the feedback on it has to date been pretty favourable.

    Lockerbie was used from 1923 until 2000, and would have been in use for one last year in 2001 as well had foot-and-mouth not intervened. As with the thankfully still-extant Balcormo Mains, it was an ancient track universally loved by the cognoscenti. The MS&H of 2002 described it as;

    “Course is flat 3m3f; plenty of good galloping stretches; fences portable now fairly soft. Viewing is good from bank and car park. Truly grand, and makes every course south of the Border look cramped. The servants of the gentry no longer dispense drinks, but plenty of ‘boot parties’ so there should be no need to go thirsty”.

    Why did they stop using Musselburgh? Used to go pointing there a bit back in the day.

    The meeting there was put on by the Northern Point-to-Point Club thanks to the vision of the then clerk of the course Bill Farnsworth, who was most keen to see the amateur sport further represented at a course that also fits two hunters’ chases into a pretty short Rules jumps season.

    The first meeting there was in 2002 and attracted a huge crowd, but it was always a very expensive meeting to put on, and after attendance plummeted over the next couple of years time was called on the project ahead of the 2005 season. Northern does not appear to have a meeting scheduled anywhere this coming season.
