Good shout on “For No One”. Not one of the most famous Beatles songs but it ought to be.

Isnt it just Cork? Its perfection. Incredibly hard to narrow down a top 5 or even a top 20 Beatles tracks but that would be in mine. The lyrics are superb and who else ever had a French horn solo in a pop record?

They were so brilliant they were taking the piss and it was totally unfair

Its pure Mccarthy and I understand that it was Lennons favourite Mccarthy piece

The best writer ive read on music is David Hepworth. His books are just fantastic and full of dry wit as well as brilliant observations. Just get any of them and start from there

One of his most famous pieces is “the Beatles were underrated”. Its true. They were. People cant quite get their heads round the magnitude of what they achieved in seven years

Pity the original Cavern Club was destroyed. 10 out of 10 to the genius who signed off that decision.

The beauty of music from great artists is that you can revisit and rediscover. Isn’t it one of the best things about music?

Im going to definitely be boring about Being Boring. Maybe because it resonates more as you get older? I cannot think of a finer recording on loss and past youth. Or maybe In my life? More parallels … another atmospheric melancholy masterpiece

And its the last line. So English. So understated and yet…

I love some of their hits. West end girls for me has one of the best 80s intro’s. ‘Love Etc’, has got to be one of the most underrated pet shop boys songs ever. Feels like it’s a complete dig at all those narcissistic vain influencer type people you see on social media , brilliant.

It’s simple they took an Elvis song and did it better , how many people or bands can say that , as for The Beatles for me it’s ” I want you ” , unrequented love is that song , banging your head against a wall with a broken heart

West End Girls was pretty ace. And I believe it was their first big song. So from my point of view they went downhill after that as they peaked straight off the bat.

Said it before but west end girls wouldn’t make my top ten of their releases. Each to own but it’s relatively pedestrian and unusually for them, lyrically boring

For the many on this thread who love this act you MUST not miss the Glastonbury performance

There are not enough superlatives available. There just aren’t

It’s on Iplayer. The full 90 mins.

It’s disappearing from iplayer soon, just watching it again. 90 minutes of pure class. Macca was brilliant, this is even better. Honestly not a single song was a dud.

I’ve been watching it over and over richard.

The rejuvenated left to my own devices (a truly great song) is just stunning

I’ve seen many concerts live over the years but I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything better in the rock/pop genre than this
