That’s fair enough Richard, also I forget his ranking won’t be as high as it would have been if he’d won the World’s because the noise was all about him winning and I’ve had a few ciders. Will he be ranked in the 30s now as runner up
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
January 3, 2024 at 23:20 #1676196I think they said he’ll be around the 30 mark now yes. I’ve been on the Sheppy’s rocket fuel strength cider myself so wasn’t paying full attention to be honest.
January 4, 2024 at 04:29 #1676198I don’t think Littler should be in the Premier League either. It risks being too much too soon. There are also a lot of players ranked above him who would be unhappy about being overlooked.
Agree the occasion maybe got to Littler a little bit. Missing the dart to go 5-2 up was a big blow and he did not really have an answer when Humphries stepped it up a gear.
No disrespect to Littler at all. He did superbly to reach the final. It was obvious from an early stage that we were all watching a future world champion. But in Humphries he was playing someone who could bang in 180s and 140s regularly and he did not quite have enough to beat him.
January 4, 2024 at 06:55 #1676199Yes a future World Champion and almost certainly a multiple one. This was the biggest stage of all and there is no substitute in any sport for big game experience, of which he had literally zero three weeks ago. Now he’s had some, with plenty more to come over the next few years, he will take some stopping. Massive target on his back now but that’s a mark of how good he is. I also think he speaks very well and sounds beyond his 16 years.
Humphries a deserved winner who has shown the grit to make it through the early rounds when not always at his best and then turn on the big scores and big finishes (those two consecutive 108s were stunning I thought) when it mattered at the business end of the final.
January 4, 2024 at 13:27 #1676209Sky Sports say 3.75 million watched last night – its largest ever audience for a non football event.
January 4, 2024 at 13:44 #1676212Seriously impressive for a paywalled event. I think figures don’t usually include pubs etc either so could easily be 4 million. I am sure the scheduling is very deliberately so that it isn’t up against anything else with the Premier League taking a break for the FA Cup and obviously very little else on at this time of year. Making the darts ‘part of Christmas’ has been a great idea.
A word too for legendary referee/caller Russ Bray who bowed out last night, certainly made the job his own and I for one will miss his distinctive style. Fitting that both players did their best to ensure we heard his famous 180 call a massive 36 times, I believe a record for a final.
January 4, 2024 at 13:53 #1676213I am sure the final used to be on New Year’s Day itself but I think it does work better a day or two later.
I must admit I miss the old BDO event at the Lakeside, which used to start around this time of year. The standard was not as high as the PDC but it was still quite good and the event had a certain charm. That might be because the crowd were usually a bit better behaved. The fancy dress brigade constantly singing do become a bit tiresome after a while.
Unfortunately, I think the BDO went bust during lockdown.

January 4, 2024 at 14:01 #1676215Yes I know what you mean, it always looked like quite a nice venue I thought. There was a time when not all the best players automatically went to the PDC, as I recall van Barneveld remained with the BDO longer than you might have expected him to.
It used to have the bigger TV audience in the days when it was on the BBC.
I think the BDO version has been resurrected in some form but I don’t even know where it was broadcast.
January 4, 2024 at 16:02 #1676220Littler confirmed in the Premier League.

January 4, 2024 at 16:47 #1676224I notice in the publicity image he has in effect been given joint second billing with Van Gerwen behind Humphries.
I wonder how some of his rivals feel about that?
January 4, 2024 at 17:01 #1676225Harsh on whatever established player got booted into 9th place on the list IMO. As I said before, fair enough if he’d won as you have to have the reigning World Champ in.
He obviously has the talent but agree with Cork, if they aren’t careful they will build resentment in some of the other players. Nathan has it right, $ky no doubt had a hand in this.
January 4, 2024 at 17:07 #1676227Danny Noppert, Johnny Clayton, Damon Heta, Dave Chisnall, Joe Cullen, Ross Smith, Dimitri Van
den Bergh and Dirk van Duijvenbode were all in the top 16 pre the Worlds with Gary Anderson around the 20 mark.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
January 4, 2024 at 19:19 #1676239Have to say I am finding a lot of the coverage unfair on Humphries, it’s more ‘Litter lost it’ rather than ‘Humphries won it’. The guy is ranked number one and holds four big titles, give him some credit!
January 4, 2024 at 19:22 #1676240Me and the lad were saying the same thing
I’ve never known an interview with the winner where they have a split screen showing the runner up…🧐

January 4, 2024 at 19:37 #1676241Yes Sky generally do a decent job but they are definitely at the forefront of the hype train, I don’t know if it’s their publicity shot that Cork refers to or a PDC one but it does sound like Sky. See also previous discussion about Fallon Sherrock.
