The shots taken from the jockey viewpoint on the back of the horse while schooling are excellent.

Do the participants in these preview nights get paid? Must be making a fortune if they are. Seems like every village in the western hemisphere has one these days.

Same ‘oul ding dong every night. Bleedin brain damage, imo. :)

Ha – indeed Cav. We’re thinking of doing a few North-of-the-Border ones ourselves next year at TRF.

Here’s part two of that Gold Cup preview.

Fantastic. I’m still watching the other vids from that night.

I Wish I’d known about it though, I’d have quite happily paid and took a bus up to Notting Hill to watch this for the evening.

    Thanks for the link, David.

I think Anthony Bromley makes some excellent points regarding Long Run.

He is the horse in the Gold Cup entries that, as Anthony states, could make people look at the race afterwards and say "How did he go off at x/1".

I have no doubt the points he makes about Long Run being on the go in France and then a campaign in England, fully contributed to the way he ran in the RSA last season.

However, what i cannot get out of my head is his performance in the Paddy Power earlier this season.

He was very impressive at Kempton, and i have no doubt that the extra work and committment connections have put into the horse’s jumping, has improved that aspect to a high degree. It is just the run in the Paddy Power which puts me off having a bet on the horse.

I’ll come to your preview cormack, if you have no jockeys, no trainers, and a ban on 90% of the racing media.

Here’s how you should do it…
    Nick Luck
    Stuart Machin or Richard Hoiles
    Alan Potts
    Denis Beary
    Steve Mellish

Mr Bromley was interesting on that clip. Long Run is a ridiculous price when you consider he hasn’t a hope of being effective at the Gold Cup trip. 4/1 my arse.

Wouldn’t be too sure about that Cav, he’s certainly bred to – his full brother stayed 3m well and his half brother finished 5th in the Grand National.
Though he didn’t last home in the RSA he was reported afterwards as being over the top, and he’s a 6yo now, has grown and strengthened since, and his jumpings improved considerably.
Not one I’d dismiss lightly on grounds of stamiina.

He’s priced on his King George win, Reet. They went an absolute dawdle on the first lap that day and really only got serious half way down the back (the point where Riverside got outpaced). After that I saw the horse being vigorously ridden from the final bend onwards and not putting a whole lot more distance between himself and Riverside Theatre as there had been half a lap earlier. I’d be worried about the level of effort required of Long Run given the early hack, the flat nature of the track and a trip of 2 furlongs less. Compare that to the ease with which a proven Gold Cup stayer, Kauto Star won the race a year earlier off a much stronger earlier pace.

Factor in a stronger earlier gallop, the undulations, the uphill finish and 2 furlongs more, I don’t see him doing it.
