Bulwark
I’m too often wrong, but don’t always have the support of the Official Handicapper.
Either you’ll have to accept that Casual Conquest ran 10lbs below his mark, or that Drill Sergeant ran 15lbs above his.
May 19, 2009 at 03:04 #228616What you have to understand about ratings however is that they dont always hold up on different conditions. Different horses are believe it or not suited to different conditions and it can be a culmination of one horse improving on conditions and one horse just not being as effective on the conditions (as in this case), that leads to one horse beating the other on merit.
Bronze Cannon didnt prove that he is a better horse than casual conquest in the jockey club ratingswise, but he did prove that on gd-fm at 1m4f he is better. Thus he has won the race on merit and if the same race terms were to come up between the pair again, I’d take Bronze Cannon again.
