Vote here for your Owner of the Year 2008
December 6, 2008 at 03:46 #194733What a strange choice of owners to choose from!
Prince Khalid Abdullah the owner of next years 1,000 gns winner Proportional would be my 1st choice.December 6, 2008 at 12:48 #194818Harry Findlay (and Paul Barber) for threatening to run Denman in the Hennessy off a rating of 182 before injury intervened, and for giving consideration to a tilt at the Grande Steeplechase de Paris, if he returns in rude health in the spring.
Game and sporting owners who are prepared to run their horse under adverse conditions, in an effort to display the full breadth of his talent. More like them, please.
December 7, 2008 at 05:29 #195027Harry Findlay, never once doubted his ‘Tank’ would win the Gold Cup, great guy, racing needs more characters like him.
December 9, 2008 at 02:08 #195544Sorry, apart from The Golden Anorak partnership don’t know much about the other smaller owners. As owners have little or nothing to do with form I do not usually take notice of them.
Echo what’s been said about Harry Findlay, running Denman in a handicap. But he does get on my nerves. Paul Barber should be given as much credit.
Ballydoyle as ever are top of the tree. Don’t know if they have many good 2 year olds (three year olds for 09). And what they did with pacemakers in the Queen Anne and International vetoed their vote.
Princess Haya gets the vote and not for her looks But to have two of the very best horses in training. Am sure she and hubby did a bit to persuade Jim Bolger to run New Approach in the Derby.

Value Is EverythingDecember 9, 2008 at 16:17 #195619OK – sad i know but I’ve just voted for myself (DSJP)… and I’m the only one that has… c’mon, how many of these others participate in the forum?
How many times can i vote? (I feel the need to win this…)
December 9, 2008 at 21:05 #195681Have to vote for Princess Haya by default as Denman is owned by Paul Barber & Margaret Findlay not Harry and don’t know which owner/owners Ballydoyle refers to
As said previously, a strange selection.December 9, 2008 at 22:08 #195698Is this a genuine category or a nod to any owner who visits the forum?

Do you think if Elite were nominated they’d win?

Value Is EverythingDecember 9, 2008 at 23:11 #195725Not sure what your point is but either this is a genuine poll, or a nod to forumites who happen to own horses.
Btw, I find both interesting to read and enjoy their posts, but that is little to do with their status as owners.

It is noted Princess Haya’s membership awaits activation.
Some, but not by any means all, of the longlist (from which this sextet were hewn) was informed by which owners are deemed to be especially transparent, giving and forthcoming with the punting public where their horses were concerned. I’d suggest those were certainly among the attributes that helped secure Clive Smith this title last year.
That some of this year’s nominees patrol the TRF waters is merely symptomatic of that openness, but was absolutely not a prerequisite of getting on the list. Indeed, DPRP Racing are far more prolific on both the Neigh forum and their own website.

Adoptive father of two. The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.

Salselon,
My point was a bit ambiguous (if that is the right word), sorry. My real point is I think most if not all Elite members would accept they had a poor season. Therefore even if they were nominated they would not vote for themselves.
This is a worthy category.

Value Is EverythingDecember 12, 2008 at 03:12 #196303I was alerted to the fact that we had a nomination here & I must admit that I was slightly embarrassed that we were on the list…especially in such exalted company!!
I then pondered posting something to that effect but didn’t want to appear as if canvassing for votes (which we will need by the looks of things!!!).
However, now that a mini debate on the merits of the list has been started maybe I can post a few words- not of justification but rather of clarification!
David Parry Racing Partnerships (DPRP) runs jump racing syndicates/partnerships in 12 horses all in training with Ferdy Murphy.
Each syndicate is a separate & distinct entity but all run under the DPRP prefix, eg Aces Four runs for The DPRP Aces Partnership & Nine De Sivola runs for The DPRP Sivola Partnership.
Typically, a syndicate has 12 partners.
David Parry Racing’s role is to manage & co-ordinate each partnership.
We operate on the (admittedly cheesy) tagline of "Extraordinary horses for ordinary people" – attempting to compete at the highest level possible given our realistic cost basis.
Horse that we manage: Aces Four, Nine De Sivola, Lucky Nellerie,Clemax, Delray Beach, Rich Lord, Kalmo Bay, Pakineo Des Pictons, Anglican, Pistol Basc, Luzenie and Divers.
As I say, I hope that people do not mind me posting this & it is genuinely meant as a point of clarification for those thinking.. "who the hell are DPRP?!"
Finally, I would like to thank whoever it was that nominated us as it is nice to know that our efforts are appreciated.

I take comments like that with a pinch of salt until they actually happen. After all didn’t he previously state Denman would definitely be running in the Grand National before changing his mind?

With a role call like that, many of these jumpers campaigning on my patch, this was no contest! You have my vote.
