I just popped on tonight to say the sight of Our Vic winning today nearly brought tears to my eyes. I thought horse and jockey were totally in tune and the performance was a joy to watch. He jumped really well and as they came to the last few fences I was praying he would hold on. He was very brave and I thought his young jockey gave him a great ride. A grand result for both of them given the disaster of the last time they teamed up. A thoroughly deserved result like that is one of the reasons I follow racing.

Well worthy of a thread he’s an amazing horse and David Pipe deserves a huge clap on the back for his performance and Lough Derg’s…..training at it’s best.
January 23, 2010 at 20:28 #271707Yes; we were screaming Our Vic home as well. Great stuff. [but still one of those horses that will never get the credit he deserves imo].
January 23, 2010 at 23:00 #271735Hear Hear – my absolute favourite horse in training – I would love to take him showjumping when he eventually retires.[/color:3axr8f1c]
January 23, 2010 at 23:16 #271736It was brilliant. I remember the day he had that crashing fall (I think it was Cheltenham but not the Festival?) years ago and looked like he might not get up. Race went his way today but no doubting at all that it was a thoroughly deserved and hard-earned win for all concerned.
Almost makes you think the jumps is nearly as good as the flat.
January 24, 2010 at 01:03 #271750I didn’t see that fall, but it has always stuck in my memory because we’d gone to Anfield to see Liverpool play Newcastle and we heard the race on the car radio in the car park. I’m amazed that he ever got his confidence back after that. The man who got us the tickets for the match asked me for a tip for the National and I told him to back Amberleigh House. He put the bet on but then had to have a major operation [he’s ok now] and forget it was me who told him, so my greatest moment as a tipster has been forgotten. But I can still remember listening to the race. Races that you hear like that stick in the memory more than races that you actually see, I find.

That’s Blasphemy
January 24, 2010 at 11:58 #271788I was at Ascot cheering the old horse like mad and couldn’t believe it was 20/1! Got a brilliant ride from Danny Cook who’s a jockey going places ignoring his misdmeanour at Cheltenham. Well done to all connections.
January 24, 2010 at 20:53 #271916I echo everyone else’s sentiments on here. It’s what jump racing is all about: these tireless, brave characters that come back year after year and give us moments of sheer heartwaming joy like this. Bless him, I was chuffed to bits. Couldn’t believe it.
Also an honourable mention (if he hasn’t already had one) must go to Lough Durg who put in a storming performance too. He never knows he’s beaten.
January 24, 2010 at 20:59 #271917Was at Haydock Saturday and the old boy got a great round of applause from the crowd…..game would be easy if there were more horses like him around
January 25, 2010 at 09:34 #271969Was a very positive ride from Danny Cook, had a lot of them in trouble from a fair distance out.
Our Vic jumped brilliantly though, and was very brave to keep on galloping, great to see.
January 25, 2010 at 12:58 #272000Through gritted teeth,i have to say What a horse! 20/1 i still cant believe it! different class, the doubt has always been whether Our Vic really gets 3 miles? 3 miles on very soft ground with 11-3?? Against the best he would have struggled, against that lot he showed he was different class!
January 25, 2010 at 14:47 #272023One of my all time favourites, but alas, he won without a dime of my hard earned, despite the fact he’s lost me plenty down the years (and won the odd few quid too)
