I have not seen a weather forecast but I hope the wind blows a little bit at some point during the week. Otherwise we could be looking at a very low score.

Louis Oosthuizen’s chance is there for all to see after being unbeaten over 72 holes in the last two Opens at the venue. My only worry is he does not see quite the same player now and not sure joining the LIV circus has helped. But I have to back him on “course form”.

Good to see a strong mention for Danny Willett above! He looks overpriced and well worth a bet.

    Of the rest:

Rory McIlroy 10/1: might not be great value but he has scored some low rounds on the course and is in much better form coming into this Open than he was last year.

Jordan Spieth 18/1: he played well here in 2015 when he had the pressure of being on for the Grand Slam. Played OK in the Scottish Open and showed last year that he can still contend in an Open.

Justin Thomas 22/1: does not have a great Open record but I wonder if this venue will suit him better?

Marc Leishman 80/1: followed him over a cliff in majors and maybe not in great form but he tied after 72 holes the last time the Open was at the Old Course.

Dylan Frittelli 250/1: only played in two Opens but did well in both, especially when fifth last year. Played OK in Scottish Open and is worth a punt at a huge price.

Looks like the weather is not going to be particularly bad and the wind is looking friendly but none of that will stop it being super interesting!!

My shopping list is going to be a long one!!

First up are the bets I have had for top Us etc.

    J SPEITH 8/1 Top US
    J ROSE 16/1 Top Euro
T LAWRENCE 14/1 Top South African
I have had a patent these three to win the world LOL

Next are my main outrights all each way off course mainly eleven or twelve places but some only ten!!

    J SPEITH 16/1
    J ROSE 50/1
    M HOMA 50/1
    K MITCHELL 125/1
    T FLEETWOOD 33/1
    P HARRINGTON 150/1

As I said these are my main bets and the rest are all outsiders which I think could sneak into 14 places maybe and get me a few quid

    D WILLETT 150/1
    T MULLINAX 300/1
    A ARNAUS 250/1
    N HOJGAARD 200/1
    M JORDAN 300/1
    T LAWRENCE 300/1
All of these I will or have backed on the exchanges to lay back if they are much shorter which hopefully happens with one or two of then!!

I hope we get a few different people on this thread for the OPEN as it holds interest beyond normal golf tournaments. :good: :good:

    Good Luck Guys :good: :good:

    Mat Fitzpatrick.

Has that deceptive length, the right temperament, and now supreme confidence to succeed here. Hope he can pull off the double…

Ok so down at my son’s in London, new baby and all that
    so we’ve all pitched in.

I stuck them on early horse this morning, But when I woke I found
my son’s pick Justin Rose has pulled out. It’s started so I’ll be brief.

Scottie Scheffler 20/1 (33/1 1st round leader market)

John Rahm 20/1 (33/1 1st round leader market)

Sam Burns 50/1 (50/1 1st round leader market)

Sebastian Munoz 225/1 (boosted from 200/1 by PP)

Will Zatoris 30/1 (50/1 1st round leader market)

I don’t think any of these have started yet.

    Best of luck guys :good:

Why did Young have to play so well? I had 22/1 against McIlroy to be first round leader!

It has not been much fun watching him struggle but the reception Tiger Woods got walking up the 18th was incredible.

Watching Cameron Smith when he’s in full swing is a joy to behold, don’t think there’s a player on the tour who gets hotter with his putter than this man over the past couple of seasons. If he can continue hitting fairways off the tee I can’t see him getting caught.

No stake in the race for me so I’ll be happy whatever happens, shame the course is playing so easy though, yes it’s fun to see low scores but I look forward to The Open because I want to see carnage lol.

Terrific reception for a terrific player but I can’t see him competing for the win ever again to be honest and as horrible as it sounds I did back him at Evens to miss the cut!

As far as it goes now the big guns are all massing near the front.
I am just waiting for Rory to have his customary one bad round!!

My outsiders I did good on the exchanges backing Lawrence at 970 and laying him at 250 and Willett backed at 240 and laid at 70 so have made a profit there :good: :good:
I could do with Lawrence being top South African :good:

And Mike007 you are well placed with your two :good:

And Graham and Darren you both a couple near by but remember today is moving today. Be Lucky Guys :good: :good:

Evens to miss the cut was a great bet. There is no room for sentiment in betting!

I have backed a few players in running (not Smith, unfortunately I missed the value on him) but I am not going to after time!

Agree with Ben. If Smith continues putting as well as he has, someone will have to fire a very low score to beat him. He seems to hole everything he looks at! McIlroy is looking better on the greens but he still makes me nervous when he is standing over a six footer for par.

Maybe Rory will thank Hovland during their round today for his birdie on the last yesterday and, consequently, being spared the awkwardness of playing with DJ…

“…shame the course is playing so easy though, yes it’s fun to see low scores but I look forward to The Open because I want to see carnage lol.”

It’s too weather dependent, like most link courses that are in The Open’s rotation. It’s a walk in the park for these guys this year. As of this writing, of the 83 players that have made the cut, 75 are at Even or better! 75!!!

That put the curse on Smith’s putting!

Let us hope McIlroy and Hovland give us another duel like Stenson v Mickelson and Watson v Nicklaus.

Looks like a Mcilroy v Hovland head to head for the title tomorrow.

Well I was way off in thinking Cameron Smith couldn’t be beaten from there, what a thrilling day today should be, shall be cheering for Rory but certainly wouldn’t begrudge Hovland winning his first major either.
