Have a look at the atrocious fall involving Romain Dubord at Pau today – Paris Turf Actualite report has a link to the race. As far as I know there is a female jockey very seriously injured for several weeks in a Bordeaux hospital too. Seems there are one or two bad falls every month in France. There must be constant awareness of how potentially dangerous equine sport is.
December 15, 2024 at 23:09 #1715540It was a bad day at Pau today. Earlier in the day there was a horse with a swinging hind-leg over the jumps (3rd race I think) and then the one you mentioned – War Plane – who came to grief in the 1m2f for two year olds. The most dangerous thing about the track is that so many fallers turn around and run the opposite way.
But they have some incredible prize-money on offer for the Winter Meeting.December 15, 2024 at 23:45 #1715542Yikes. That’s horrific.
For those who want to know what happened but don’t want to watch- it’s a 2yo race on the AW, the horse clips the heels of one in front at speed and does what looks like the equine equivalent of a highside motorbike crash.
From what I can gather the horse was euthanased and the jockey has a broken back (thankfully non displaced) and arm.
Flat falls are so fast and unpredictable. Thank goodness he was at the back not in the middle of the pack. - AuthorPosts
