You’re probably right on that front Ian, to be honest I haven’t voted in about 10 years now, it’s probably silly of me but I decided I can’t get behind any of these corrupt lying b*stards so none of them deserve a vote.
October 20, 2022 at 22:47 #1619308I miss Donald Trump, he made politics fun
You’re about to get the budget version back in office, have “fun” with that.
October 20, 2022 at 22:51 #1619309I look forward to a time when politics is boring again.
Ben, I’ve spoiled my paper a couple of times. I personally believe that voting is important so it’s a way of both ‘voting’ and expressing your displeasure. It’s always up to you of course but one to think about 👍

They haven’t even finished investigating him for the stuff that got him kicked out the first time. It’s truly absurd that we’re talking about him coming back.

This is a good shout and one I’ll be doing in future then Richard!
And Miss Woodford – the way I see it is that they will all screw us over, I’d rather have the opportunity to laugh than cry if I’m going to have my pants pulled down.
October 21, 2022 at 00:47 #1619328I get really annoyed with people that don’t vote, people died to give us that right and I consider that you are disrespecting their memory.
In my area and, I suspect plenty of others, people not voting is as good as a vote for the Tories.

People being interviewed on the street saying they want Johnson back – LET ME OUTTA HERE!!!
October 21, 2022 at 05:28 #1619333Bring him back then he can resign once he,s found guilty by the commons privileges committee ….do the Tories honestly think they can do , there was a cabinet minister yesterday quited as saying the Tories need a term in opposition …that’s the first honest thing I’ve heard out of a Tory mouth in weeks , this bollocks that Boris is a proven winner , there,s no Brexit , there been plenty lies , part of me hopes he returns so I can watch him be destroyed in an election ….I’ve already decided Mogg is going to be the portillo of the next election ….I danced when he left I’ll do a jig when Mogg goes

October 21, 2022 at 07:02 #1619334It’s going to be Bozo.
That’s how desperate the current Conservative party is.
October 21, 2022 at 07:07 #1619335Maybe it’s my personal politics talking, but I have always considered the following gifts to the Conservatives: “They’re all as bad as each other,” “I don’t vote.”
Such words are invariably uttered by people who – if they work at all – don’t earn enough to benefit under a Tory government.
I would make it a statutory legal obligation to vote – by all means spoil your paper as it’s a form of expression – and I’d fine anyone who didn’t vote.
It’s a public duty – or ought to be.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 21, 2022 at 07:50 #1619337If everyone who didn’t vote instead spoiled their paper, it would usually form the second largest vote share and occasionally even the largest. That would send far more of a message than staying home.
The Tories should think very carefully before putting Johnson in, if he is found guilty then he’ll have to go and that really will be election time and Conservative wipeout.
October 21, 2022 at 08:34 #1619343Compulsory voting is a very bad idea. It is forced speech, bringing to mind Rousseau’s sinister phrase about people being “forced to be free”.
It is also ridiculous. Do we really want a group of petty officials going around knocking on doors to check people have voted, especially if they are only going to spoil their papers anyway? How much would that cost?
Compulsory voting is not popular in countries that are foolish enough to have it, such as Brazil and Australia. It is the classic case of the law being an ass. In Brazil, a doctor’s note (freely given out by doctors who just want a quiet life) is accepted as an excuse. In Australia, lots of people who do not want to vote say it is against their religion. This shuts up the petty officials, who cannot question the non voter on this protected characteristic as to do so would be a breach of human rights legislation.
There are fines for non voting but in many countries they are token amounts and very often not paid. It costs the government far more to pursue the fines, so they tend to be written off.
I do find it amusing that some of the people who shout loudest about compulsory voting tend to be those who hold the public’s opinion in complete contempt!
October 21, 2022 at 08:38 #1619344Johnson still strong in the market this morning – 3.65 currently.

You’re basically saying ‘I don’t care, I’ll leave it up to everyone else to decide’. If you then feel that someone else should have got in, you should probably vote against the incumbent party next time.
October 21, 2022 at 09:04 #1619349I would – simply to annoy the apathetic.
They’d probably all go out and vote Tory, though, just to get their own back on me!

They can witter on about him getting an 80 seat majority all they like. If that’s the case call an election as soon as he’s appointed. If he’s still as popular as they say he is they’ll win won’t they? 😉
