Just been watching racing from Plumpton today and the large number cloths they are using there and at places like Edinburgh etc just seem ridiculously large to me, they are that big they are blowing around and you can hardly see any of the horse, what’s wrong with the standard size number cloth these days????
February 14, 2011 at 21:36 #340689I’ve no problem with the larger number cloths but it seems to be a random selection of meetings that they’re having them at.
If it were up to me, I’d have them at courses where it’s possible to see the whole of the track. Try & encourage people to watch the races through binoculars or the naked eye instead of on a big screen.
Though I seem to recall it’s an RFC idea for the benefit of tv, which seems pretty pointless to me.

It’s MUSSELBURGH! Hmmm!
(pause to calm down)….
Anyway, what the hell’s wrong with big numbers? At least you can seee them and if you’re not quite sure of the colours in helps a lot in a finish. It certainly helps me idntify finishers from the stands.
