30 non runners so far today,
but we won’t talk about that because they are not superstars trained by Nicky HendersonCharles Darwin to conquer the World
November 26, 2022 at 12:29 #1624602It is disappointing. There does not look like there is much wrong with the ground at Newbury.
November 26, 2022 at 12:33 #1624603I hope GELINO BELLO is okay, trained by Paul Nicholls who never has any non runners

November 26, 2022 at 12:56 #1624614To be fair he did pull out Quel Destin in that Ascot race that ended up being a walk over.
The Tingle Creek next week will be interesting with Shishkin & Edwardstone both declared, Sandown is currently ‘gasp’ good (good to soft in places) with 10mm due overnight into Sunday but the forecast for the rest of the week is ‘looking dry’.
A strong possibility that neither horse will run and that it will again turn into a song and dance probably on the morning of the race so…..something to look forward to
November 26, 2022 at 12:57 #1624615There is a difference between taking your horse out because the ground does not suit him and taking all your horses out and then telling everyone the ground is unsafe for racing.
November 26, 2022 at 13:06 #1624620Perfect ground at Champs de Mars today and just one non-runner in the 2.00 for those betting further afield.
November 26, 2022 at 13:12 #1624621Henderson says what he likes as he knows nobody will do anything about it
not saying its right but he has them by the ballsCharles Darwin to conquer the World
November 26, 2022 at 13:20 #1624624That was always my point – absolutely no problem with withdrawing your horse but the bs excuse about it being on horse welfare grounds was totally uncalled for and not only gives ammunition to the ban racing brigade (which they clearly don’t need) but is also a slight upon those trainers that ran their horses at Ascot, indicating that they simply didn’t care about their horses wellbeing as much as he did.
All he had to say was ‘we are not running him because I think the ground is unsuitable for him at this stage’ and leave it at that, some people still would have moaned about it (no avoiding that) and others would have put forth the argument over race times on the day compared with his Supreme winning time and highlighted the potential hypocrisy of his decision not to run because of the ground.
At the end of the day his welfare comment has done a great disservice (and potential damage) to the sport and it would have been nice if he had come out subsequently and admit that he was wrong in saying that….especially given that today he has won the first race at Newbury that are racing on ground officially described as good in a time that was 4.00s slower than standard – so clearly not a welfare issue.
November 26, 2022 at 13:25 #1624630Spot on LD.
November 26, 2022 at 13:35 #1624634“There does not look like there is much wrong with the ground at Newbury.”
A horse rated 126 broke standard over fences yesterday.
To put that in context, nothing at Ascot got anywhere near standard either day.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 26, 2022 at 13:43 #1624639I suppose that means Henderson is running horses on ground that is faster than ground he declared was unsafe and that he would run nothing in his whole stable on.
November 26, 2022 at 13:51 #1624640To be fair to him he did withdraw Mister Coffey from the 3rd race due to unsuitable ground, I just wonder whether he walked Newbury with his trusty walking stick aka how I can tell the ground is too fast by pushing this into it device like he did at Ascot?
November 26, 2022 at 13:54 #1624644Henderson has got value for money with the blind stick
He must be at Newcastle today though?
and was it Nico that put the boot into the Ascot going?Charles Darwin to conquer the World
November 26, 2022 at 14:05 #1624648Does anyone know why the Henderson trained Walking On Air was withdrawn from the 1.55 Newbury? Had been looking forward to this ones return all summer and even wanted to back it for Cheltenham last year but it never went to the festival.
November 26, 2022 at 14:10 #1624651Says unsuitable ground on the RP results page
November 26, 2022 at 14:12 #1624652Cheers LD, weird because I assumed the horse wants good(ish) ground, maybe Nicky thought the ground was just a touch too quick for the horse today or maybe similarly to Constitution Hill he really likes the horse and has a target for it and didn’t want to risk an injury, or maybe a combination of the two.
November 26, 2022 at 14:19 #1624662First run at Kempton was on good ground and next two on good to soft so hard to say – maybe a touch of being overly cautious for a first time out run – RP says he has an entry for the Stayers Hurdle.
