March 14, 2024 at 10:41 #1685764Show the average racing purist snob a Class 6 Handicap at Kempton Park, tell them it was a pattern race and if they didn’t have a race card to hand they’d believe you.
Racehorses are racehorses – as stated, a bunch of rich owners supporting Irish yards are doing better than a bunch of rich owners supporting British yards.
So
effing
what?
No one’s died here – there’s really no need for all this wailing, gnashing of teeth or the racing media soul searching cringe fest I guarantee is coming after this meeting ends.
It’s a cracking Festival – and the exciting thing is for me the cream are young novices – Gaelic Warrior and Ballyburn.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 14, 2024 at 11:35 #1685801Throughout this thread, you’ve been spectacularly missing the point, Ian.
If things continue like this, there will be no national hunt racing in the UK.
You may not care- you’ll be able to back your winners in Irish racing or some other sport- but it matters to plenty of people.
March 14, 2024 at 11:59 #1685821I totally agree Gladiateur.
Something needs doing to stop the Irish & in particular Mullin’s dominanceMarch 14, 2024 at 12:08 #1685828“I actually think the main issue with British racing is the low minimum prize money at the bottom end”
And yet when decent money is on offer, there are still small fields (4 runners for a £20,000 class 3 handicap at Plumpton and just the one for the most valuable race on Leicester’s card last week for example).

I suggest we ban the Irish from Cheltenham

March 14, 2024 at 12:35 #1685852At least we have some competitive racing today well aside from the Mares Novice Hurdle.
The more I know the less I understand.

British trainers need to attract the owners who spend big money and train their horses better. I suspect most of the top Irish horses are not only better but fitter and hardier as well.

He won with two handicap plot jobs. British trainers have not won a single graded race between them.
March 14, 2024 at 13:38 #1685884The domminantion is down in large part to Mullins ability to source the young horses ahead of everyone else – his connections in France etc means he is able to brings these horses over after a private sale before anyone else can get a look in. Its almost conveyor belt like in his ability year after year to add/replace very good horses with more very good horses to keep the winners rolling in.
I think there are a number of trainers in the UK if given that same advantage would be very successful but you have to be able to build those relationships to source the young horses and I think it is going to be very hard for others to get a look in with the stranglehold Willie has in that particular area…….it could be awhile before any tide is turned.
1st three home in the first today and the Skelton’s are leading the comeback………game on

March 14, 2024 at 13:56 #1685897Throughout this thread, you’ve been spectacularly patronising, Gladders.
Your point might not be the point of others – your priorities might not be the priorities of others.
Despite low prize money, they will still be just about racing at Fakenham tomorrow and all the other smaller tracks you don’t seem bothered about.
This is the area much nearer meeting the definition of a genuine crisis than a lack of British top-yard success at the top end at the Cheltenham Festival.
