My portfolio of systems from which most of my bets are obtained tend to pick horses at the shorter, or at best, mid end of the market. I have identified an idea overnight that will select horses at the higher end of the market to pick those horses that might place or even win at longer prices. I have no background data on this new system. I am going to call the system “No Hopersâ€ÂÂ

Well – they all ran as their prices suggested they would (ie, badly) with the exception of Sometimes Lucky who was squeezed when up with the leaders with a furlong to go and dropped out.

April 24, 2005 at 13:07 #59084Hi Rex,
Interesting approach – good luck with it.
The points analysis I understand mate – 4pts per bet, but what is LSP? I’ve always used this abbreviation for Level Stakes Profit & I just cant think what it may be.
I thought at first it may be Level Stakes Place, which would be 2pts per bet, but on the first day you have an LSP of 3.00 & Level Stakes Place would have been much better than this, with your 50/1 3rd returning 22pts for an outlay of 8pts (place only).
I’ve no doubt it’s something obvious & I will feel like a right donkey when I know  , but enlighten me mate before it drives me to drink!
Ooops too late!
April 25, 2005 at 10:49 #59085Snowman – Thanks for the support and comments.
I can understand the confusion. I use LSP for Level Stakes Profit too.
I initially said I would bet 2 points EW on each selection from a starting bank of 200 points. I chose 200 not 100 (and 1 point EW) because this fit easily into Betfair’s minimum stake requirements should I actually decide to back them.
As the bet is always going to be 2 points EW, one can say that the unit bet is always the same and therefore you can easily show the Level Stakes Profit accordingly.
However the effect on the bank and the actual points won, or more accurately lost, is double.
That is why I show both LSP and points profit/loss.
Thus, as all horse didn’t even place on Saturday the LSP loss was 14 and the points loss 28.
It is probably going to be academic anyway because the bank might not survive into May let alone June. :(
