Classic Fiddle the latest to go in, what thell hell his Henderson feeding his horses? Spare a thought for Barry Geraghty who went to Newcastle.
Just a question – with Henderson in such form is it going to be worth opposing his horses later in the season when he goes off the boil a bit? Might find himself with some badly handicapped horses.
November 29, 2008 at 20:36 #193176Would love to know what AP was thinking today- something along the lines of "I could be riding good horses like these instead of Johnjo’s yaks…"
November 29, 2008 at 20:36 #193177I want whatever Nicky Henderson’s on
Everything is going right for him
Good luck to him

I think that was the gist of his post race comments to Channel 4’s Alice Plunkett
November 29, 2008 at 20:41 #193180I wouldn’t feel too sorry for him. If he’s chosen to take a fat retainer to ride bad horses isn’t it his own fault
November 29, 2008 at 20:42 #193181He’ll need to keep the turnover high ’cause the handicapper mullers them once he’s seen them run.
November 30, 2008 at 00:17 #193227Ever had one of those weeks? Firstly, I suggest to At The Races that following Henderson’s flops mid-week the stable may have peaked or perhaps suffering with a virus. Silly me.
Then all week I’m proffering the thought to all and sundry that David Pipe was probably going to strike a rich vein of form soon; and chose today of all days to not have a bet, despite selecting his three winners 12/1;11/2;25/1) and noticing that Maison was available at 50/1 at one time.
I think I need to lie down in a darkened room for a while.November 30, 2008 at 01:12 #193242Hendersons flops midweek Hora and Boomshakalaka are examples of what the handicapper does to his horses once he’s had a look. There will be plenty more of those in the months ahead. It does make his handicap newcomers or unexposed horses returning after a break very hard to read from a ratings point of view though.
November 30, 2008 at 01:17 #193245Key to a fine stable is that it is never "out of form" for long
November 30, 2008 at 02:02 #193256Nicky has been doing it for years but always in some other trainer’s shadow. When people talk class he’s always been the first trainer I have thought of and if ever a man desereved to be Champion it’s him red face and all.
Pity Mick Fitz had to retire but he has plenty good jockeys to chose from including AP when available………….which I suppose could be quite a lot soon.
December 6, 2008 at 19:06 #194877Andytown another fine of example of what the handicapper does once he’s had a look at Nickys horses. Up 18 lbs today for a 2 lengths victory in a 0-120. No wonder they all win first time out!
December 7, 2008 at 03:40 #195004I’m a big Henderson fan, but as much as his stable being in great form you can’t help feel sorry about Jack The Giant, impressive reappearance but out for the rest of the season, reminds me of Trabolgan after his top-weight Hennessy win, niggling problems ever since.

I am, as I type, working on a new approach to analysing trainer form and was looking for a suitable trainer for a trial run. Henderson could be just the man. When I get it up and running (don’t hold your breath) I’ll post info in the Systems section.
December 7, 2008 at 17:13 #195125In my notebook it says ‘Nicky Henderson.Jan onwards 40% strike rate with hurdling debuts, so he’s probably going to get even better….
