If Sizing Europe wins the Champion Hurdle in March then what are the chances of JP McManus writing out a cheque for £500k and buying him after all he has not had a decent 2 mile hurdler since the retirement of Istabraq. No doubt if he wins the March he will be the next champion hurlder to the compained to Istabraq just the we have every year.

McManus can write the cheque, but there’s no chance of the owner agreeing to sell – he’s wealthy enough not to need the money.
I share his name, hence my interest – check out his company MMD on the net.

And there I was looking forward to Sizing Golden Anorak being unleashed on an unsuspecting public…

I did wonder about that- and there was me thinking it would be too much of a coincidence to have two Alan Potts’ in the owning game!
And yes, a quick googling of MMD confirms that any £500k that JP McManus offered would merely be spare change to Alan Potts!

Probably no chance and we might be exagerating just a little bit……wouldn’t mind owing Binocular or Franchoek. Granted they still have to prove themsleves in thee top class races but we could probably regard them as being decent……..Hopefully one of them wins the Triumph and goes on to better things………personally I don’t mind which wins the race as long as it’s not Franchoek
February 1, 2008 at 09:19 #139395My namesake has made a spectacular rise through the ranks of ownership and we were confused for the first time when he bought his first horse.
It was a Saturday seller at Lingfield in November 2002 and the winner, Dubai Dreams, was sold to ‘Alan Potts’ for 9,000gns. I was taken aback when I got an email on Sunday from someone asking if they could have a share in the horse. I phoned Lingfield on Monday and spoke to the auctioneer, Milton Johns, to clarify in case they were planning to take the money out of my Weatherbys account. He told me that the trainer Mark Polglase had done the bidding and told the officials to put it down to Alan Potts as he’d be the new owner.
To go from that to a Champion Hurdle favourite in just over five years is certainly living the dream. I hope I have the opportunity to meet him one day.

February 1, 2008 at 14:32 #139456FoF – You don’t mind who wins out of two as long as its not Franchoek?!
Do you ever read what you’ve written or for that matter what anyone else writes? Your ignorance is grating me – Wind your neck in a bit and listen to others and maybe even concede once in a while that your not the frickin oracle… Geez…

February 1, 2008 at 18:38 #139504I would hazard a guess that, on this occasion, FOF was speaking slightly tongue in cheek and was merely intimating that a win for Binocular would be most pleasing…
