Can anyone offer an opinion as to the most reliable ratings in a daily newspaper aside from Racing Post (which probably isn’t the best anyway). I have been tracking the Daily Mail’s for about 6 weeks but they don’t seem as good as I had read they were.

According to current statistics, Computerman of the Daily Express is doing best of the tipsters who rely on ratings, although I’m not sure if these ratings are shown for each horse in the newspaper.

August 14, 2008 at 15:37 #177007I find the ‘Guardian’ profitable closely followed by the ‘Daily Mail’ but as always they are more effective in some races than others (ie Handicaps of fewer than 10 runners at good class courses).

August 14, 2008 at 15:42 #177008Good I’ll keep a track of the Express for the rest of the flat. Quite suprising in a way as that paper has the worst coverage of horse racing of all the morning papers I find.
August 14, 2008 at 17:32 #177017It will only cost you 40p buying the paper (Monday – Friday) – and you get the bonus of Gordon Brown and his cohorts getting a bashing everyday!

September 11, 2008 at 22:57 #180515I found the Daily Mail had quiet good odds about 10 years ago, but over the past few years the accuracy has dropped off quiet a bit. To the point where I have stopped using them altogether.
It really depends what you want out of a set of published odds, personally I use 2 sets of odds one that will give me a good guide to what the starting prices WILL be, and one that gives me accurate probabilities of the out come of the race. If that makes sense.
I use the Race Post for what the anticipated SP is going to be and an on line complier for probability odds.
