My local pub seems to be full of council house Tories, very similar to Alf Garnet.
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysAugust 1, 2022 at 09:24 #1609706Speaking as someone who has spent his life being fortunate enough to be sufficiently affluent to be better off under the Tories – but voted Labour because I have a semblance of a social conscience – I was always puzzled why so many who would be better off under Labour voted Tory.
I suppose I ought to thank them, really.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 1, 2022 at 11:53 #1609718Sunak has received a slight boost from some new polling.
The survey – carried out by Ipsos – indicates people who vote Conservative tend to think he is more likely to be a good PM than Liz Truss.
49% think Sunak would do the job well, compared to 40% for Truss.
However, it is not these people who choose the next leader, but the card-carrying members of the Conservative Party.
And Truss has a sizeable lead in popularity among Tory Party members, according to latest polls.

Quite how the Tory membership prefer Truss remains a thorough mystery.
(Well, it isn’t really but you’re not allowed to say that it’s down to the colour of his skin)
August 1, 2022 at 12:00 #1609720I don’t personally believe it’s down to the colour of his skin.
I just think it’s his economic record as Chancellor and the fact they’re mostly ancient and Truss reminds them a bit of Thatcher.
Ironic, really, as I think Sunak is actually a lot more right wing than many of them realise – the Pandemic forced his hand on spending.

I think we are in serious danger of overestimating Ms Truss’s ability.
I believe she would struggle to run a whelk stall.
August 1, 2022 at 12:25 #1609722Truss has a touch of the Thatchers about her, and she is promising “jam today” in terms of tax cuts so, as long as there isn’t a whelk in sight, she’s a racing certainty.

So minuscule it wouldn’t be worth mentioning but for the fact it’s the sole possible sign of a Sunak resurgence in what has otherwise been one-way traffic.
Truss 1.11 from 1.1, Sunak 9.8 from 11.

Although I do agree with her about the madness of importing so much cheese when there are so many good British varieties. What is wrong with people?!
August 1, 2022 at 18:54 #1609759She’s off her F-ing trolley, but then so is the Tory membership which will surely elect her.
Force feed the nation that well-known processed meat black pudding, what can possibly go wrong?

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 1, 2022 at 19:01 #1609760I don’t mind a bit of black pudding, in small doses. A Lancashire delicacy. Although the best I have tasted was in Ireland.
August 1, 2022 at 19:09 #1609763I have absolutely no issue with others enjoying it – and many do.
But it’s hardly a food item she should be advocating to the nation.
Apples, pears, fine – even high fat cheese (which I love), but black pudding and even pork pies will have nutritionists up in arms.

She listed various reasons, but figuring Truss was the likely winner and she wants a place in her Cabinet was not one of them.
Tungendhat has already declared he’s backing Truss too – scenes.

Black pudding is actually very good for you.
CAS mentioned Irish ones- Clonakilty is the most famous black pudding from the Emerald Isle; the French and Spanish also make excellent black puddings. The best supermarket one is Simon Howie’s (about £1.50 in most supermarkets).
Try it! 😎
August 1, 2022 at 19:57 #1609773Truss back to 1.1 – Sunak back out to 10.5.
Devon ain’t Heaven for Sunak, apparently.

That was the one I had in mind. Clonakilty also being famous as the birthplace of Michael Collins.
I had some very good black pudding in Northern Ireland once but I cannot remember the name of the manufacturer.
White pudding is nice as well.
I want an Ulster Fry now!
