I was excited earlier today to see a trailer of the "new" Morning Line to start in two weeks time, however my excitement quickly abated when I learnt that the well-known racing expert Matt Dawson is joining the show full time – why why why?
Do Channel 4 seriously think that more people will watch the show because he’ll be on there? Well I hate to tell them this is one person who will never watch the show again.
January 15, 2011 at 18:34 #336082Couldn’t agree more!
It’s an awful choice, he’s completely out of his depth in front of a camera, as he has already demonstrated many times.
Don’t know what his agent does to get him these gigs, but I hope Dawsons paying him well.
I make a point not to watch A Question Of Sport (no explanation needed, surely), but on a couple of occasions I’ve had the misfortune of seeing it in recent years, he’s been dismal.
They might as well poach Colin Murray from the BBC as well, and be done with it.

don’t give them ideas!
Channel 4 don’t listen to any criticism. No-one likes their immediate post-race interviews with the winning jockeys but they continue doing it, and there was a great deal of criticism about Matt Dawson’s pathetic performance at Glorious Goodwood but now they’re bringing him back for good, totally crazy
January 15, 2011 at 18:45 #336086Is this for real? You cannot be serious??
January 15, 2011 at 18:53 #336088If it turns out as bad as it promises to be I might just delete my series link for ML.
January 15, 2011 at 18:57 #336089The report comes from Claude Duval in today’s Sun, he isn’t normally wrong about these things.
January 15, 2011 at 18:59 #336090Dreadful decision.
Does tarting oneself on Celebrity Masterchef and Strictly Come Dancing now qualify for landing the gig with terrestrial TV’s flagship racing programme?
A Morning Line featuring Matt Dawson will probably be enough to make me decide not to bother rising early on a Saturday morning anymore.January 15, 2011 at 19:58 #336099gobsmacked that the apple on a gatepost will be a presenter on the Morning Line. He is so irritating and hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about where racing and horses are concerned. Sorry, but I couldn’t watch the ML if he is going to be a feature. Someone please tell C4 to wise up.
January 15, 2011 at 20:14 #336103Aw what? Matt Dawson is awesome. Come on he’s funny, has plenty of sporting knowledge… perhaps not on the nags, but still… and he’s good on camera. Talks of him being bad on camera is total hipperish.
I never miss A Question of Sport. I’m looking forward to this.
(i will admit however if i had to choose between him and Jeremy Kyle as a full time presenter, i probably would go for Jeremy. Hell give us both and i’ll lose sleep on firday nights!)
January 15, 2011 at 20:31 #336106Matt Dawson "awesome"? Uh, don’t think this adjective applies to him.

He presents a television show where people make big cakes, for crying out loud. Rather than being ‘the face’ of C4’s racing coverage, he might just turn out to be the a*se.
A terrible decision.
January 15, 2011 at 21:27 #336117Matt Dawson will be introduced to CH4 racing viewers during Glorious Goodwood, and will then become a regular member of the CH4 racing team.
What ?! They cannot be serious. This buffoon who knows practically SFA about horse racing
"He’ll ask questions from an informed point of view, from another sport, the questions that wouldn’t have been asked in the past," adds Andrew Franklin, executive producer at Highflyer.
Yes folks, Andrew Franklin wants to treat us all like four year olds. That is, the human – not equine variety.
How much more dumbing down can any reasonble horse racing fanatic take, I ask you. First, we get tongue tied Tanya, then the office boy, the nondescript Tom Lee, who has as much charisma as a wet Halibut – and now this moron. Heavens above, what is the world coming to.
I don’t know about you but, the very second Matt the Twat hits my screen, and invades my tv racing experience, I’m switching off !

January 15, 2011 at 21:44 #336121Oh for goodness sake,
DOES IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE?!!!
The number of people on here who complain about Channel 4’s racing coverage is astounding. Then they change it & what happens? More complaining!
The Morning Line has never been anything more than a bit of early morning fluff. There’s the internet, ATR & Racing UK and the three of them add to up to making the Morning Line redundant as a show of any any seriousness.
January 15, 2011 at 21:46 #336123I did apply for the Gig myself but Andrew Franklin said i didn"t know enough about Horse racing! He also said i wouldn"t be allowed to sit in my throne whilst filming as health and safety insisted if there was a fire McCririck wouldn"t be able to squeeze past! It could have been worse James Sherwood was at the interviews too!
January 15, 2011 at 22:52 #336135I was hoping we’d see more of Jimmy Nesbitt now that he must surely have become ‘one of us’. I don’t think I’ve ever complained about The Morning Line in it’s entire history, but I can’t have this. Matt Dawson last year just made me feel embarrassed for him. He obviously didn’t realise how awful he was. Apparently, neither did the producers of Ch4 Racing.
January 15, 2011 at 22:58 #336137Matt Lucas would probably be better than Matt Dawson. Awful decision, and quite baffling.
January 15, 2011 at 23:21 #336148I was asked if I could do it, but I had to tell him that I could not fit that in with my day job of script writing for ‘The Only Way Is Essex’
