Thanks Sam, yes, he was a bit lit up at the start. Think Crowley wanted to go forward from an awkward draw

    Ben,
The normal thing that happens is called “sods law”
    Strict discipline the horse wins
    Ill discipline the horse loses
Its certainly an interesting subject, my brother never had much money but would gamble quite heavy at times. He would be really high and loving life when winning but I also saw him the other way in dark places. I could give him great advice on discipline and then find myself going against what I said..

And have you ever found on the days you have a lot of bets, when your lucks not in then it is really not in, half of your horses will just get caught on the line and the other half will fly home and just not get up in time! Then there’s the third half (great maths ben) that either get blocked off in-running or fall when on the bridle!

I’m sure it’s just nature of probabilities and randomness but some times it really does feel like somethings conspiring against you and weirdly enough that usually happened on the days where I thought ‘probably should be good with my money today and not have a bet’. I never have been one for superstition but there were many days where I really wondered!

Sad what your brother has been through Nathan, I’ve been through it myself, the ironic thing is, and maybe your brother was the same, we rarely actually need to be winning money to be happy, the high of winning is nothing close to the low you get from those bad losing days/weeks.

Great work with the thread so far though mate, lovely to see such a solid profit already, discipline certainly is key in this game

My brother was very high and low anyway Ben as he had bi polar along with other mental illnesses
I’m sure gambling would have made those emotions for him extreme, hard to imagine, as like you say the low can be bad enough for a mentally stable person at the best of times.

Cheers mate. Its a challenge trying to find one everyday but it makes you look a bit deeper into the selection when posting them down so that’s a good thing

Not much in it but preference for Harrovian over Gosdens other runner with Havlin onboard
King of the South looks a solid danger but maybe hes better over a longer distance

    13/8 bog (13:50 Newcastle) Harrovian

Well either way Nathan his life will have been enriched for having you in it and at least he must have had some great highs when he had winners.

Best of luck with your punt in the next!

    Thanks Ben, kind words

I thought I had it when Harrovian had an easy lead as I knew King of the South wouldn’t have the speed at the end and Forest of Dean was at the back. That was a smart performance from the winner. If they meet again I’d probably stick with Harrovian dependant on the course, opponents etc

It was just the jockeys for me and the fact that forest of Dean has stayed in class one mostly recently that made me go with FOD Nathan.
I trust Rab havlin less than Paul Mulrenhan!! Plus Collen storey grabbed me a 125/1 winner at Yarmouth.

I saw you had FOD, Sam, well done, an easy winner in the end
Rab had the run of the race, think he need to kick on a bit earlier, the track seems to favour the camera side and maybe he could have come more that side but that is just nit picking as FOD was much the best horse today.

You never know what goes on at the Gosdens, if you have a horse to win a race put that one in.
    Why run two?
At least FOD had something to aim at.
I was out when Micheal Appleby ran his earlier, you can’t get them all!

I can only think why Gosden runs two is that he will have an eye on Meydan, Bahrain etc with these two and also Lingfield all weather winter championships. Probably not too many races around at the moment at their standard to get some match practise into them.

I’m out working all day tomorrow so getting this one on now

Sense of Wisdom was impressive on debut beating First Ruler who ran well last week. 2nd start was very messy, got into trouble on more than one occasion through a bit greenness and off since. Didn’t race as a two year old and just the two starts in his 3 y/o campaign so you’d expect there is more to come. Handicap debut and a light enough weight. Compared to his 2nd start more run here which will likely lead to a faster pace which should suit

5/1 (17:30 Meydan) Sense of Wisdom

Sense of Wisdom looked prime to pounce when he ran out of room.
Went off about 11/8 so may have missed the best chance of getting a decent price as he’s looks a winner in waiting and doubt I’ll get the 5’s next time

Nicholls horse looks set for another good run.
A few good contenders but he stands out on this years efforts and the back end of last season

    Lovely pick Nathan.
I’ve always liked that horse and cannot convince myself he’s not a better hurdler.
He took his fences well yesterday.
I do feel at the highest level under pressure he’d struggle but for now he is making hay.

    Thank you Jac and Sam
I put up in the big discussion race thread that I didn’t think Paint the Dream would be suited by the course having done his best work on galloping tracks and going left handed

Today, nothing sticks out. I’ve decided to take a chance on Journey With Me in an intriguing grade 3 novice chase. Journey With Me had solid enough hurdle form but came unstuck in a couple of grade 1’s. Fell on chase debut before looking very good in his last race beating the Mullins hotpot Flame Bearer. Flamer Bearer beat a horse yesterday who has got beat further by both the other market leaders in this race Ha D’or and Impervious. On a strict form line Journey With Me has a bit to find but the price makes up for it

Gary Moore has a decent strike at Fontwell including the past 12 months and I’d hazard a guess that these novice hurdles races would take a high percentage of his wins there.
Looks a bit of a match between Moore’s Hermino Aa and V Williams horse Georges Saint.
Georges Saint has had a couple of wind ops before finishing beaten favourite the last twice. Hermino Aa is less experience but was 3rd to Moon Hunter who was thought highly enough to compete in a grade 2 over the weekend although ran no sort of a race

    13/8 (13:30 Fontwell) Hermino Aa
