Jimmy Fortune?
Would be fickle for William Buick to go after a year with Gosden . . or would it?
October 12, 2010 at 22:24 #322094Buick will surely become one of the top riders on the planet if he continues as he is going, but possibly a more likely successor to Frankie at Godolphin.
I am still strongly inclined to believe this ”Murtagh – O’Brien Split shocker!” is total BS.
There are only a finite number of really top, adaptable jockeys out there that can ride a number of run styles to a world class level Moore,Murtagh,Lemaire,Dettori,Leparoux…Fallon maybe…

I can’t think of a decent replacement who would take the job over the one they have.
October 12, 2010 at 22:58 #322101I do know from a fairly reliable source that there has been issues between the two but it might not be as severe a rift as some are speculating.
Johnny has always been something of a free spirit and he’ll do his own thing no matter what. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he did go back to Mick Halford’s and started riding over hurdles again. The smart money is on him remaining as Ballydoyle no1 though.

Can’t believe for one minute anyone took me seriusly about Grandpa Fallon. I wouldn’t think for one minute that Murtagh will go as he’s a class act who far as I’m aware has done little wrong riding wise.
I really wouldn’t have a clue who would take over but if I were the likes of Ryan Moore I wouldn’t entertain Ballydolye either.
You would have to ask yourself how long before I go?
Bloods thicker than water and hasn’t his son just won the Apprentice Championship? I would have thought he’s being groomed for the job and it can only be a matter of time.
October 13, 2010 at 09:41 #322148Thanks for the info, IC. Very informative.

Pat Smullen is as good as there is, imo.

I’d be shocked if this is indeed true but would just like to add to this list Fran Berry,Christophe Soumillon and a surprise inclusion for a lot of people i’m sure but Eddie Ahern-this lad is serious in the saddle i think in Ireland and England he is by far and away the most under-rated jockey about, great timing, has balls and very strong in a finish!

Has Joseph O’Brien written all over it.
Shemus or Colm could step forth untill Joseph is ready.
November 8, 2010 at 16:23 #327008Joseph is going to be too big isn’t he?
Ryan Moore anyone?
Well done Cav by the way for the original info – spot on.
November 8, 2010 at 16:24 #327009Correct Joseph will soon grow out of being a flat jockey. I would like to see Colm O’Donoghue given the opportunity, an excellent jockey IMO.

What about Christophe Soumillon. He’s been riding a lot here recently.
November 8, 2010 at 17:03 #327015Ryan Moore was offered the job last week and turned it down.
November 8, 2010 at 17:04 #327016An interesting development today, personally I didnt see it coming really, although I’ve been told something was off for a while as was also mentioned earlier on the thread too.
Heffernan and C O’Donoghue are both capable jockeys and could be a good option to share the top rides for the stable now.
I stand by my previous post of there only being a finite number of top jockeys that can ride to an international Group 1 level, Garret Gomez could also be added to that list.
I disagree strongly with the previous posters putting up Smullen,Fran Berry and Ahern in that class, maybe less so about Soumillon who has done well in Hong Kong previously as well as France and England, even if he does seem like a bit of an airhead.November 8, 2010 at 17:19 #327019

What’s to stop those decision makers at Ballydoyle to arrange a new jockey before releasing to the media and smashing the bookies to cover contract costs?
November 8, 2010 at 17:28 #327020Will any world class jockey step aside to let the son or any other stable jockey ride the group one horses?I don’t think so.Murtagh was dissed too many times this year.No way to treat a loyal jockey.Start looking for trainers not jockeys. Ballydoyle better get their act together, before Aidan is canned.Godolphin did it.Young Elliot seems an up-and-coming trainer.
