I own the 1986-1991 form books and so I went and looked it up and indeed Hallgate won a race in 1987 for Tel Ramsden but by then Alan Bailey trained the horse.

Does not the Racing Post not have a section on who’s birthday on that particular day?

It gives the age of both male and female and there seems to be no complaints from the racing world as this has been going on for years.

So is it only a % of those who contribute to the board that are age-sensitive?

    As for small stables etc.

Was there not once a minimum number of animals a trainer had to have in his stable before he was given a licence? – a flat trainer that is.

Your bang on. The original owners were Hippodromo Racing, whoever they were and Sally trained him to win the Diadem and the Greenham in 86. Greveille Strakey won the Palace House Stakes on him for Ramsden in 87.

Found it under Yorkshire trainers on the net.

Bookies from Doncaster, I think. Hallgate is a street in Donny and they had other horses, similarly-named. St Sepulchregate was one, as I recall.
