total place 3/5, 60%
The place dividend on these wouldn’t buy a bag of sweets, let alone get one of the losing stakes back.
Imagine what lumping £300 in the pool (as advised by the chancer who put this system up) would do to these returns, particularly as the total place pool is often only around the 1k mark in small field races with a short-priced fav?March 3, 2009 at 22:18 #213291Monday 2nd March
No selection
Tuesday 3rd March
2.20 Newcastle –
Steady Tiger
3rd @8/13 (9ran) tote place £1.02
total wins 2/6
total place 4/6reet hard I agree fully with you on the place dividend, Eddie boasted that the system had a 90% place strike rate but with the odds of the horse’s that have fitted the selections there’s no way I’d imagine you would get rich backing this system, same with the win bets 60% would return a loss if they all started odds on.
How long do you think I should continue to keep tabs on the results or is it fair to say this system is a bit of a flop?

Don’t let me deter you, though my own mind was made up about Eddie and his knowledge at an early stage in his postings.
March 4, 2009 at 12:48 #213365Nathan, if the system is that bad you could always lay all of the selections for a huge profit.
March 4, 2009 at 14:42 #213376I was open minded to the system and had read of something similar on teletext back along about the mirror system so I was interested in seeing the results but after six odds on selections and penny placepot dividends it’s not something I’d follow with cash. Perhaps the strike rates will improve over a longer period of time but like David Brady predicted earlier in the thread I think it will continue to be very short prices.

Agreed but he could be very entertaining.
April 20, 2009 at 17:05 #222753I remember using a Mirror system when I was in school – the Steve Cauthen era. It was simply: Non-handicaps only – back the betting forecast favourite if it was SF and the spothorse.
Has lots of winners, not enough to make a profit because of the short prices but it had streaks that came in very handy for a 14-year-old’s 10p round the clock bets!
Mind you, a lot of selections were placed so there may be some scope for place-only betting.
For old time’s sake, today’s qualifiers are:
FLAT
Desperate Dan, 3.50 Wolver
Standpoint, 4.10 Ponte
Souter Point, 7.20 Windsor
JUMPS
Touch Of Irish, 3.00 Hex
Or Bleu, 5.30 KempAnother system from my school days was to back any horse that was top on the Daily Mirror ratings and the Daily Star ratings, again in non-handicaps. It was later tweaked to be the top-rated on Raceform Speed Figures and the top-rated on Raceform Ratings. But they have gone now so maybe the Mirror/Star combination could be tried again.
Again, for old’s time sake using the Mirror and Star:
FLAT
Lilly Blue, 2.40 Ponte – edited, this race is a handicap, sorry!
Standpoint, 4.10 Ponte
Welsh Anthem, 6.50 Windsor
JUMPS
Touch Of Irish, 3.00 Hexham
Or Bleu, 5.30 KempJuly 1, 2009 at 19:20 #23727827.2.09
2.55 Fakenham –
Forty Five
1st @2/7 (7 ran) tote win £1.30, place £1.10
total wins 1/2 50%
total place 2/2 100%
If anyone wants to work out the running profits/losses feel free to do so.
i thought they were to be placed only….
July 1, 2009 at 19:50 #237282Welcome to the forum Mr Forecast.
I wasn’t sure whether the system was place only or not as the original mirror thread was deleted.
Feel free to continue the thread, place only if you like.
