No entries yet, but certainly a market formed……

If Altior turns up, then it would have an air of foregone conclusion about it, but for me, I’d love to see Frodon get an entry.
Already successful round there this season in The Old Roan. Haven’t heard even a whisper that he might be going, but I’d snap up that 12’s for a place if he did go.
Obviously no bet yet, but if pushed, an easy decision for me…..
Frodon 12’s Each Way
March 24, 2019 at 11:05 #1403676With a good chance of Altior heading here, and the injury to Bryony Frost, I’ll hsppily sit this one out for now.
March 25, 2019 at 10:30 #1404712I’m beyond buzzing to see Altior in this!
Hopefully he turns up A1, rumours he wasn’t working great prior to Cheltenham and Hendo being keen to go here now makes me think he could be bouncing
March 25, 2019 at 17:48 #1404757It’ll be good if he turns up Kev, and almost guarantees this’ll be a no bet race for me.
March 25, 2019 at 23:19 #1404884Clearly going to be a reccy for a possible tilt at the King George with Altior and then if he wins this and a KG then they will go Gold Cup route and the 2m division will be up for grabs.
He reminds me a bit of Hendo’s Remmittance Man (although not as good of a jumper) in that his ideal distance could be 2m4f as 2m seems to be a bit on the short side & 3m might a bit too far (as it was for Remittance Man when he finished 3rd in ’91 after looking the winner turning in).
Personally I would like to see him match and then surpass Badsworth Boy’s hatrick of QMCC wins.
March 26, 2019 at 18:42 #1406693Yeah I was keen for him to step up in trip, but the Arkle a fortnight ago was all the impetus connections needed to stay put. There’s nothing that can touch him in the division.
March 26, 2019 at 19:05 #1406742I must say I don’t buy into this ‘he has to go up in distance to prove what an exceptional horse he is’ line of argument. Who says staying chasers are superior to 2m chasers. I, for one, love watching him over two miles and see no reason for him to be stepped up in trip. He will go down in the annals of history if he wins three Champion Chases. I wouldn’t put Kauto Star ahead of Altior in the all-time greats just because he won over 2m and 3m+. They are and we’re both very very good horses.
March 26, 2019 at 19:37 #1406785I can’t wait to see him step up in distance , personally I think Cheltenham doesn’t play to his strengths and it’s purely because he,s so superior to everything else he wins there , he,s going to get slower as he gets older too so if he does stay further it opens up other avenues …..king George , saying that I’d love to see him take on cyrname
March 27, 2019 at 08:20 #1407223Altior @ 10/11
One of the best prices I’ve seen for a superstar in my betting lifetime. If Cyrname was definitely going to run. he ought to be 8/15 at this stage. With Cyrname a doubt, 2/5 is how I’d have him right now.
Altior absolutely hoses up.
March 27, 2019 at 10:38 #1407427One Man won two KGs and then came back to win a QMCC, no reason Altior can’t do the same if they wish.
Versatility for me increases the admiration you have for that thoroughbred. Tiger Roll is a case in point for that right now.
I agree MOM, i’ve had a swing at the 10/11.
March 27, 2019 at 11:03 #1407480Isn’t Cyrname supposed to be better right handed?
I can’t wait to see ALTIOR run all over them in this
March 27, 2019 at 12:43 #14077134/6 now.
March 27, 2019 at 13:18 #1407716One Man was not like Altior in that he wasn’t ever campaigned as a 2m horse – he was always thought of as a stayer (won a 3m2f Hennessey as a 6 yr old) and had the Ryanair been about after his failed GC attempts he most likely would have been a multiple winner of that. The QMCC was a last chance saloon attempt to get him a win at the Festival he had failed at multiple times over the years and as he got older he seemed to even be having more trouble fully seeing out the 3m trip.
Altior has always been seen as a speed horse, they were convinced he would have won a Champion Hurdle and most likely he would have stayed over hurdles had Hendo not had BVD doing the business in that sphere.
As I have said I can quite easily see him reigning supreme in the QM for several years and whilst I have no worries over him getting 2m4f, I fear if he bolts up in this race they will go all in for a KG and if he were to win that than the QM will be abandoned for the GC and (as with One Man/Florida Pearl/Wayward Lad/Pendil to name a few) that trip I fear could be beyond him.
March 27, 2019 at 13:50 #1407719One Man proves though, that you can come back from the KG and win a QMCC. I’m not disputing that he was a stayer most of his days.
This lad is just like Kauto for me, quick enough and classy enough to win at two but possibly best over further. Embrace this beast trying further i say, he might just win the lot. Kauto did and most of us said he wouldn’t stay in the GC. Being unbeaten is almost meaningless after a while when you continually beat the same 160 rated beasts.
March 27, 2019 at 17:05 #1408631I already regret posting this as I don’t have the energy for the potential wrath I’ll likely incur but here goes.
As time’s gone by it’s looked increasingly likely that Altior needs at least the intermediate trip to be seen to full effect. I think, barring his Supreme winning year, he’s never looked a two miler to me. Now when I say this next bit I mean it simply in relation to his all round ability – at two miles, he’s nothing more than an average Champion Chase winner nowadays.
This is me basing it on the figures, the fact that he’s the best horse in training and he’s still winning a Champion Chase over an inadequate trip. So before I get jumped on for calling Altior ‘average’, I’m not. He is (unofficially) the best horse in training, but I’d fear for the unbeaten run if he stayed at the minimum trip another season. He won’t win another QMCC
March 27, 2019 at 20:20 #1409520Altior hasn’t looked himself the last two runs for me
His jumping was very scratchy at times at cheltenham and before that at ascot
I just have a funny feeling he has a slight niggle that is causing this
Not a betting race for me but will be hoping altior wins looking forward to the king George
The idea that this monster of a horse could be even better over further is something very exciting for horse racing
March 27, 2019 at 21:05 #1409603I dont realistically see how the horse could possibly be better over further?
He would certainly be hard to beat in the melling over 2m 4f (though I would definitely take him on)but he will be 10yo when the next gold cup arrives and past his peak. Winning the 3rd champ chase will be very hard next season as younger legs will appear but that’s possible he could do it. Winning the gold cup however – absolutely no chance.
