Off thread, 2 inches of rain at Randwick, but track has only gone to a Slow 7.

I think it’s a case of Damn the torpedoes! Full steam ahead!

Okay, my Kilmore Cup horse is Encroacher. Only came midfield in the race last year, but wasn’t in form at the time. Won the Bairnsdale Cup a few weeks ago, so he is in some kind of form this time.

I don’t know anything about the Australian handicapping system, so I’ve got no idea how much he has been penalised for that win.

Randwick could well be downgraded at some point I reckon. It doesn’t drain great.

I was rather hoping you’d tell me how to look up a horse’s h’cap rating.

Anyway, Extra Zero versus Lloyd Williams’ Linton versus Darley/Godolphin, with EZ drifting like the proverbial . . .

    Not unexpected.

Linton by Galileo – didn’t know you had any there.

Racing Victoria Limited and the horse search for a rating.

Michael Rodd shows why he is the best jockey in Australia again on Linton. I’m totally convinced of that. Ok, the horse was miles better than those, and anyone would have won on that but I have no worries whatsoever when I back him.

Darley remarkably owned one – Sousa, who won the Spring Champion Stakes of 2008. He was sent to Godolphin from memory.

Beat Predatory Pricer by 6 lengths!

edit: Monaco Consul won the Spring Champion last year, so I’ll take notice of the race this year. I suppose I was mostly ignoring the Sydney racing when I was first up a few months ago.

Lost network connection just as the race started. Will probably hear the replay a few times over the next couple of days.

Even Master O’Reilly finished in front of Nicconi. Well, Chiswickian warned me. Still like him for the King’s Stand though.

I’ve backed More Than Great to beat Manhattan Rain. Waterhouse was right on More Joyous, but then I’ve always rated her. Manhattan Rain has been frustrating up until now in some ways.

Still frustrating. He’s quirky and moody in his own way, and that was the reason he blew the start.

Okay, I was warned about that one as well!

Hopefully that’s the end of Manhattan Rain’s sprinting career. Didn’t make too much sense to me to think about the N’ket H’cap with the 2nd in the Cox Plate. I’ll still have a go at this one at longer trips.

Gosh, just found out that the NZ Derby is on March 6 as well. I reckon I can have a go at pedigree analysis for that one, so I’ll start a separate thread for it closer to the date.

Once again the Valley claims another victim –

Be careful with the William Reid. Translating straight five furlong form to the tight six furlongs at Moonee Valley is tricky ( Think Ascot to Chester ).

Am now relying on either Himalayan Trail or the Schweppes Hurdle to get me back in the game!

Beneteau has drawn quite well in gate nine but the filly has drawn wide out in the carpark. She’ll need to be very special to win now. Beneteau currently around 5/2. Word from the stable has him spot on and crusing towards the Diamond.

I’m surprised to see Speed Gifted is entered for the St George Stakes on Saturday. I had got it into my head that he would be campaigned in Sydney, because of the ground.

Changingoftheguard finally makes it to the track in the same race.

The question I’d like to ask is does this race ever have much bearing on the Cox Plate later in the year? I’m just wondering if the form is disposable, what with the field being full of first and second uppers, on their way to the Australian Cup.
