Last year was quite a poor turnout for the European runners due to all kind of hoops everyone had to jump through to make it. No funding for flights and accomodation made it a pretty expensive trip so no wonder only a handful turned up.
Given those restrictions and prize money on offer i think we could expect half the field of runners we are more familiar with.
Away he goes 100/1 +
starts his campaign off in the Hardwicke on Saturday and has maybe 2 or three chance to get placed in a group race to be qualified. Connections must of been gutted last year when he had a minor injury and had to be ruled out a few days before the race.He was backed down to 14/1 last year and might be a good chance they have another bash at it
Spanish Mission @ 25/1
Had a similar disaster last year. Was meant to be heading to the Caulfield Cup then had a setback which meant he could not travel. Then eventually got there and was found to be slightly lame and had to pass a last minute vet inspection. Did quite well after all of that to finish 3rd, now moved to one of the best trainers in Australia and might have a better prep than last year.
Cleveland
Coolmore seem to be dying to win this race and had some horrendous bad luck the last few years with injuries.Might well be able to step up a bit over the next few months to be considered for a trip.
June 18, 2022 at 15:20 #1603099Cleveland looked pretty good in the Chester Cup over 2m2f, was dropped back in trip the other day – didn’t seem to have the speed for 1m6f and stayed on, without looking like winning.
July 5, 2022 at 09:37 #1605316Cleveland EW @ 33/1
He is quietly starting to look fairly well handicapped now without even running ( 106 ). Gave weight to Get Shirty and Coltrane on his last two runs and like AndyRac said possibly 2 miles is ideal. Another 2 or 3 lbs extra by getting placed in a group race should just do the trick or even placed in the Ebor would qualify him to run.
Might not even be on the radar but worth a dart at the price.
July 5, 2022 at 09:45 #1605317Just checked and 365 are refunding bets on horses not initially entered at the first stage. Quite a good concession that
August 1, 2022 at 09:39 #1609710Plenty of races coming up in Europe in the next six weeks or so to qualify and stand a chance of getting a place in the field.
No news on any horses being aimed at this for certain apart from a German horse called Loft who won a G1 at Belmont breaking the course record is an intended runner and Cleveland has been purchased by Twighlight Payment and Rekindling’s owner and switched to Joseph and could be going if qualifying. The initial entries should be out in a couple of weeks.
The qualifying criteria to enter is below which may help someone.
Finished top five in a Group 1 3YO+ over 12 Furlongs or more after 1/2/22
Finished top 3 in a Group 2 or 3 3YO+ over 12 Furlongs or more
Won a listed race 3YO+ over 12 Furlongs or more
Won the Northumberland plate or Cesarewitch
Finished top 3 in the Ebor
Finished top 3 in last years race.August 1, 2022 at 10:39 #1609715Hoo Ya Mal being aimed at this Botchy.

August 2, 2022 at 05:42 #1609808Loft won the 2 mile Belmont Gold Cup in 3:16.68, a new American record and just a tick off the world record for the imperial distance. If he’s sharp (I don’t know what races, if any, they intend on using as preps) he’s the one to beat IMO, especially if the ground comes up good-firm.
August 2, 2022 at 10:59 #1609816Loft is sired by Adlerflug (In the Wings, Sadler’s Wells) as is Turquator Tasso the 2021 Arc winner…
August 2, 2022 at 14:09 #1609847186 entries with 43 of them overseas runners.

October 28, 2022 at 07:31 #1620591I’ve only ever backed the winner of this once and tbf I seldom bet in it.
All I’ll say is that Serpentine was one of four I backed win only in the race when he won The Derby, though he nicked a big lead he had ability, it’s a crime he was gelded, as he’d have made a NH stallion at least, and I will have a right giggle if he actually ran in this and actually won it.

Ridden by the jockey with the best record has to go close. Placed or won all of most recent rides and bang inform…. If you were place potting the card he’d be first on the list.November 1, 2022 at 03:19 #1621217Terrible draw, but Knights Order will love the ground more than
most. I’m very tempted by the 16.5 offered on the exchange. I’ll
keep a close eye, but will bet it.Moe, are you not staying up this year, I might be on my lonesome
