In a union of superstars Sea The Stars and Zarkava have produced a colt foal, born last Friday.
Anybody think of any other couplings of turf giants and how did they get on?
February 14, 2011 at 22:52 #340702John Francome & Tracey Bailey. He got the 7-year itch.
February 15, 2011 at 17:44 #340775Can’t think of any progeny of multi-G1 winning sires and dams off the top of me head
For comparison with the STS-Zarkava coupling it’s surely just a case of researching the offspring of the scarce Zarkava-like mares e.g Miesque, Triptych, Dahlia, Allez-France, Petite Etoile, Pretty Polly, Sceptre…
They must have been put to STS-like stallions at times I’d have thought, and would hazard a rather confident guess that none of the fruit of their immaculately-seeded loins ripened as hoped
Not quite in the same league but do recall Wayne County, who became a complete dog after a promising start
He was Sadler’s Wells – Detroit (Arc winner)
February 15, 2011 at 19:40 #340796There are of course the Urban Sea progeny – Sea The Stars by Cape Cross and Galileo by Sadler’s Wells.
What about Miesque? She must have had a few blue-blooded suitors.
February 15, 2011 at 22:10 #340827Here are a few "best-to-the-best" matings…
Allez France had two foals by the American Triple Crown winner and champion sire, Seattle Slew – Air De France, who won 1 race from 2 starts, and Ave France, who never ran.
The brilliant filly Mumtaz Mahal did well as a broodmare, but she was only mated to Triple Crown winner and champion sire Gainsborough twice, producing Mah Mahal, who won 2 races and became dam of Mahmoud, and the useless Aurangzebe.
Pretty Polly, when mated to the champion racehorse and sire, Swynford, threw Tudor King, who was hopeless.
February 15, 2011 at 22:38 #340832How did Oh So Sharp do at stud?
February 16, 2011 at 04:12 #340840Rachel Alexandra is in foal to Curlin. Jess Jackson actually got Rachel with the intention of creating a "superhorse" from two superstars. Let’s see how that works.

Wayne County sired Horse of the Year/Breeders Cup Classic winner/excellent sire Black Tie Affair, which makes him more than a complete dog IMO.

Did he by gum!
The breeding of Thoroughbreds and that of the European Nobility has much in common
Not least errant, wastrel sons tolerated because they’re perceived to be ‘good breeding stock’ – maybe, maybe not, who knows?
Put the best to the best, the worst to the best, the best to the worst, the worst to the worst and keep your fingers crossed

No, he didn’t!!
Black Tie Affair is a son of Miswaki.
February 16, 2011 at 12:49 #340879Thinking about Wayne County actually reminds me of his full brother Carnegie. This was a case of breeding the best – Sadler’s Wells to the best – Detroit (Arc winner) and getting an Arc winner – Carnegie (1994).
Therefore Detroit and Urban Sea share the distinction (have there been others?) of having both won an Arc and bred an Arc winner.
February 17, 2011 at 05:21 #340966Nijinksy – Snow Bride (ok she won the oaks on disq)
But the result was Lammtarra
February 18, 2011 at 04:02 #341118Urban Sea was a very good racehorse and Navajo Princess and Flaming Page pretty good but great horses come from all sorts of dams and two of the best from dams that never won anything;
