That chip in by McIlroy on the 17th was ridiculous.

It is the weekend at Augusta and lots of crazy things can happen – but someone is going to have to play exceptionally well to stop McIlroy claiming back to back titles. I don’t think he will throw it away, he is playing too well.

Fabulous stuff from McIlroy, there were wobbles but it’s how you respond and he did so emphatically. So far backing up the idea that great things are possible now that the pressure finally to win one is off.

From the sublime to the ridiculous. After looking like it could be a formality, we have an exciting final day in prospect now.

Unfortunately a long and fraught week caught up with me and I fell asleep and missed the back 9.

Several players could win now. Maybe McIlroy will refocus after getting his bad round out of the way. Ideally I would like to see Rose win after he has gone so close before – but my eye keeps being drawn to Scheffler, looking ominous at only 4 behind.

I know he has always had a petulant streak but Garcia seems to be doing everything he can to lose good will:

McIlroy did it the hard way but got it over the line in the end.

I expect a few players will be wondering about what might have been. Scheffler, Rose and Young in particular.

I don’t know what Faldo was wittering on about towards the end. Something about energy and trees. Murray and Beem seemed to be squirming with embarrassment.

It’s an old cliche but the best win when they aren’t playing so well and so it was with McIlroy. I was disappointed for Rose in particular, two clear at one point but it soon evaporated.

That Faldo commentary was bizarre. I could almost understand if he was coming out with that early on Thursday afternoon, it’s like Test cricket with there being a lot of time to fill, but it was the business end on Sunday

I do feel sorry for Rose. He was in a position where he had to back himself to win but it simply didn’t happen.

Scheffler had a bizarre tournament. Decent first round but found himself 12 behind at halfway. And then only lost by 1! That included a putt on 17 that missed by millimetres and he was poor on the par 5s all week (although the birdie on the 15th on Sunday was incredible).

Agree about Faldo. Unlike some online commenters, I do quite like him. I admired his achievements as a player and I think he does sometimes offer insight as a commentator. But as you say Richard, his chatter on the 18th with the tournament on the line was utterly bizarre.
