So he settles his horse, eventually at the back, moves though behind a wall of horses, allows his horse to wander left into the rails and collars the race. Great piece of riding by any standards except of course that he blatantly broke the rules by allowing his horse to just roll down to the rail and he got punished.
So my question is, did he engage in dangerous riding and and therefore should the horse have the race taken from him seeing as if he wasnt allowed to go where he did, he may well found himself stuck.???
In this context, given he interfered with noone really, should he not even have gotten a ban?
Anyone got strong opinions about this.?

June 9, 2008 at 15:52 #167574I dont think it is fair to say "he allowed his horse to roll down to the rail", from what I remember he made a definite decision to switch left and in the process almost brought down Dettori. I think he was lucky to get off with (I think) a 3 day ban

I thought it was a very minor piece of interference, to be honest.
June 9, 2008 at 17:43 #167595According to Dettori there was very little interference. Saying he was "nearly brought down" is, frankly, bollocks.
June 9, 2008 at 20:39 #167617NOT A HOBBY HORSE RIDE.Horses interfere with each other,,jockeys take risks no quarters asked none given. May the best horse win, horses are entered which have no right to be there. Are you supposed to ask permission to pass a horse who everyone knew could not stay and was only there for his owners sake? For goodness sake close it down. That horse could be the best since Shergar. And you want to talk about something else. How about Jim giving a plug to the sponsor of the Irish derby as he is getting the prize from an non sponsored Classic?I bet the owner was mortified. There you go I did it myself !
June 9, 2008 at 23:02 #167636personnally thought vaery bad ride, terrible composure and even worse positioning of horse but horse overcame and peole taking swipes at bolger must realise by putting him back in the derby he has saved early ante poist betting a mint

JohnJ.June 10, 2008 at 07:31 #167655Dettori and especially Macevoy’s were clearly the best and went unrewarded.Ryan Moore’s ride would win 7/10 and Manning delivers the type of lost in traffic fare whuch he gets caned for and emerges triumphant.Do you think he’ll have that luxury in a tactical affair against older more seasoned horses?
June 10, 2008 at 11:18 #167702Only saw the race last night for the first time. Thought Manning was the difference between winning and losing. New Approach got badly bumped around Tattenham Corner as well which pushed the horse into the middle of the pack. Manning saw the gap and went for it and got it. Best horse won on the day.

Very probably indeed. There would certainly be a very lengthy enquiry and if the stewards decided that New Approach had preveted Rio obtaining the best possible placing, he would be disqualified. If Dettori declared that the interference was had minimal effect, they would maybe show more leniency.

Did you watch the Arc last year? Not much difference between that and what Fallon did imo.
June 10, 2008 at 15:55 #167728You misunderstand – i ‘ain’t’ knocking the ride or the horse, i am merely asking a question out of interest.
